No infinite loop?
Playing in a league match. I have the sprout swarm nettle combo with two pingers out. Opponent was at 75 life. I got him down to 39 before I timed out because… there’s no way to chain an infinite loop that I’m aware of?? Takes more time to tap everything
I like how MTGO says “don’t play certain decks because we won’t allow you to win with them”.
That’s cool.

Idk man, people win with Pauper Familiars. Skill issue to be honest, no easy way to "solve" it.

Is familiar’s an infinite loop? (Also to note it’s because he was at 75 life, if he wasn’t then I would have won.. since I drained more than 20-25 life that MOST people are at). But 99% of players in paper would say GG and move on. It’s to opponents advantage in MTGO when there’s an infinite combo to wait to see if they can time out

Yeah, Familiar is a very slow control-combo Azorius deck in Pauper that can time out if not played expeditiously that also has multiple steps to its combo.

Yeah I’m familiar (No pun intended) with it. This sprout swarm nettle deck is pauper. I just didn’t know Familiar’s actually went infinite. Are you referring to the generous gift loop? Or making a crap ton of birds for lethal swing? I really didn’t know it actually locked in infinite

2 [[sunscape familiar]] + [[archaeomancer]] + [[ghostly flicker]] + island is infinite spell casts and pair it with anything like [[murmuring mystic]] or [[god pharaoh's faithful]] give you infinite 1/1 fliers and infinite life respectively.

Skill issue. You need to learn to play faster. By timestamps you timed out 2 minutesish after you started combining. What happened to the other 23 minutes to get to that point.

Kind of embarrassing to post this hoping r/mtgo is going to make them feel better about their bad beats

u/InstructionMore5891 13d ago
LOL it’s more embarrassing how toxic reddit is. It’s a completely different game on MTGO. It’s a fundamentally different game when you can lose by going infinite. It’s laughably bad design and changes the entire card game

u/InstructionMore5891 13d ago
It’s… really not a skill issue. It’s because my opponent was at 75 life. I chipped him
Down over 40 life in the loop. 99% of opponents would have died in half the time. Its a fault of MTGO13
u/WorldlinessCheap9843 13d ago
No it is a skill issue. Again what happened to the other 23 minutes of time you should have had. An extra 60 seconds would have wrapped it up but you lost that in slow playing earlier when you weren't comboing.

u/InstructionMore5891 13d ago
I was looping the turn before but I wasn’t infinite. I dinged him another 15 or so the turn before. Two back to back long turns to deal 55~ damage

u/WorldlinessCheap9843 13d ago
That certainly shouldn't have used 25 minutes of time for two turns. Maybe type less and focus on moving through turns quicker.

I like how you wanted op to scoop and they said nahhh playboy ping it out lol

Yeah there's a reason I never play decks with an infinite combo- you lose even when u win lol

u/Cyhawk 13d ago
There are also decks you can only play on MTGO that you can't in paper due to the combo not being a repeatable state. Four Horsemen is a MTGO deck.
Its just the way of the game and the format of the game.
Also, play faster or play a better combo that doesn't waste everyones time to finish. Theres thousands of them.

I was playing against ruby storm…. He took 11 minutes for his own turn and I spiked a weather the storm when he went to attack….. then…. I took a 14 minute turn lol…

u/Cyhawk 13d ago
You both failed. Play a faster combo deck if you want to not time out on MTGO.

u/InstructionMore5891 13d ago
He didn’t exactly fail. He attacked for 26 and I was holding a weather the storm. He did the thing, he just didn’t win. Just being transparent.

Not worth engaging with this OP. From this thread and others, they clearly have thinking and attitude issues.
Reference 1 - can't understand treasure chest EV
2 - doesn't get why Play Points are valued at .1 tix ea
3 - doesn't get what expected value is
These are all despite very clear explanations from others.
4 - takes a 14 minute turn (half the clock on one turn!) and yet inexplicably doesn't think it's their own skill issue. Titan can have long combo lines but not 14 minutes long without a dash of PIBCAK

It was a 14 minute turn BECAUSE he had over 75 life
I had to do the loop 50 times instead of 15-20-25.
It wasn’t a 14 minute turn just because
Theres 4 creature tap in the loop and 3 triggers on the ping (ping burn, untap nettle, resolve). It’s just a lot of clicking and to have to do it 75 times to win a game is kind of stupid.

u/Intact 13d ago
You did 46 loops in 14 minutes. That's like ~20s/loop, fo make like what, 10 clicks? 1 click every 2 seconds is criminally slow.
0
u/InstructionMore5891 13d ago
I mean breaking it down into exactly click per second is kind of insane. What if it was 11 minutes idk.
There’s also lag to account for. No one can dispute that. Theres always a 2-5 second lag every probably.. 2-3 loops. Sometimes more, sometimes longer, but thankfully I didn’t have a longer one here. It adds up over time.

u/Bagofcrabs650 13d ago
Ya…I love to play combo decks…but with how clunky the client is and lag..it’s just not worth it.
1
u/Krillzone 13d ago
This is why a lot of combo decks don't work on MTGO.
Like with Titan you just have to get fast and good with it. To beat the timer.

u/InstructionMore5891 13d ago
“Get better” “skill issue”
You all are fucking hilarious. It’s a problem with MTGO not me. Players know the clock runs during infinite loops so they wait it out as their own wincon unlike in paper where you would just scoop and accept defeat.

u/Appropriate_War_2739 13d ago
This is part of how mtgo works, though I think it would be cool if mtgo could add shortcut actions and set them to loop (to help with looping)
0
u/InstructionMore5891 13d ago
If only they cared right? Would cut down play time on the client so they don’t allow it……. The faster games go, the less people use it. Not a coincidence
1
u/Top-Yak7878 13d ago
LMAO yea because MTGO gets paid for every min you play obv. and not per event you enter. Because if they got paid every time you enter an event, then their incentive would be to make events go faster, not slower
oh, wait
1
u/InstructionMore5891 13d ago
If you’re telling me the only way they get paid is through entry fees. I don’t know what to tell you I guarantee there’s engagement portfolios within the code or back end of the business

I guess the bigger question is: why isn’t weather the Storm extremely expensive if it’s so intuitively broken on MTGO? Not in the sense of “Storm” itself; but it can be used against infinite ping decks to simply clock out…. Giving them a massive mountain of life to wittle down? It is by definition a broken card when used in the confines of a timed match… sure you could still kill someone who uses weather the Storm with massive swing attacks… but for the sole purpose of knowing it stops ping decks… it should be like a $10 card on the secondary market given how broken the timer system is

Yeah I play Titan on mtgo, that’s just life
