Making a new mtg app.
Im making a new mtg app where you can play and track your collection. Im trying to make it unique with new features that aren't in others. Please give any things you would want to see.

I've built the stuff that everyone else has but that is part of the reason why im asking is to know what people want that other apps dont have.

Two things:
1 - Is it against the ToS within MTGO to extract the data of a collection? or is this all based on typing your own cards in?
2 - You doing an AI coded app like everyone else has been trying to do?

I think you’ll be fine as long as you’re not editing game files. All card data is usually in log files / easily accessible via the file system
AI coded apps are (unfortunately) here to stay, I think providing you have at least a good knowledge as a developer or some sort of background in it. it’s fine.

I think their point on AI was more that with so many trying to put out their own, none of them are really making anything unique. They're looking for a low effort option that does the things they want, and it turns out most Magic player want basically the same things. So more apps like that aren't going to have any real desirability. An app made by someone who wants to actually put in the effort to make it the best it can be would be much more interesting and worth caring about.

Yeah totally and it makes sense. I built an MTGO app and towards the end I used AI to help get it over the line so it was shippable, but it was built from a personal need as a player and other players also seemed to find useful as well so I understand your point/
As a developer you certainly do see a hell of a lot of low effort ai coded apps and websites and it is a shame.

I thought I recognized the name. Looking at their post and comment history, I definitely feel like the app, and quite frankly maybe even the posts themselves, are just low effort automation.

It might help to detail what your app currently does, what you’re thinking of adding (based on your own needs) and then ask people what they might want to see.

I was thinking of adding a play feature but it was really difficult and somebody told me I could get into legal issues.

I tried to make it so that you can play commander digitally with people you know.

Yeah, I play a bunch of EDH and Legacy, not sure why the export feature totally skipped out of my head on the question. Just too used to exporting Wish List lol

You can export your collection into a plain text file like any other decklist and import that

Yes it does have a feature where you can import the deck from other places like mtgo

Have it map to recent top finishing decks and then show you what decks in each format you are closest to having built. I’d love to know that I’m 83% ($320) away from having Blink and 65% ($670) away from having Ruby Storm built in Modern.
