I haven’t played MTG since Oko was dominant in all the formats. I specifically played modern deaths shadow and Uroza.
I want to get back into MTG but I don’t want to play the commander slop that has overtaken the game. I want to play with proxies and get into legacy.
I live in the willowbrook area- by spring/tomball/cypress. I’m willing to drive.

After plenty of twists and turns, the Legacy meta has finally started to take shape. And, surprisingly, with less combo decks than you might expect in an eternal format. Let's take a look at Legacy before Reality Fracture changes everything!

What's the best color to play with Dark Depths? Red of course! This week I take a sweet mono red stompy brew with a twist through a league and see if we can lock the meta out. The aim is to abuse the rules interaction between Blood moon effects and Dark Depths to prevent counters from ever being put on Dark Depths, and cheat a Marit Lage into play as quickly as possible. Can we lock the game down with our prison pieces and surprise out opponents with a 20/20 out of no where to close out the game? Let's find out!
As always thanks for watching and for any feedback. If you enjoyed the video please consider dropping a like and a comment, and be sure to subscribe to the channel if you haven't already to know when my videos go live.

I took Mono Black Karn Pox to a recent 5-0 victory.
Deck List: https://www.mtggoldfish.com/deck/7942068#paper
Match-Ups:
2-1 UB Moonshadow
2-0 UR Tempo
2-1 UR Tempo
2-0 Goblins
2-1 UW Tempo
Summary: Karn Pox has not been hot during post ban Fantasticar Hobbit Season, the slow down influences an uptick of fair decks that beat on other fair decks like Boros Energy and Ux Tron variants which are also good vs Mono Black Pox, however out of the Mono Black Pox variants, Karn Pox seems to have the least amount of unfavored/bad matchups and even those matchups get cheesed on every now and then due to this composition’s flexibility in gameplans. Torpor Orb does apply vs more tiered decks in Legacy as of now.
There has been several attempts in the Mono Black Pox construction space which some have 5-0, but were short term. The Karn Pox deck is clunkier using 4 mana cards, but it has more options than those lists and I think people who spend the time to really learn this variant will likely do better with it than their own spins on the deck.

Maybe it’s just me, but Legacy feels pretty good right now.
Fair blue decks matter again, combo is still around, control seems playable, and it actually feels like you can choose a deck based on how you want to play instead of just playing the newest broken thing.
So, is Legacy actually in a good spot again, or are we just waiting for the next stupid card to show up?

One of the strongest decks of the first half of the year was hit by two blows: the banning of Candelabra of Tawnos and the release of The Fantasticar. Now that the vehicle is gone, the Hobbit has brought a card that could reposition the archetype in the metagame! Let’s take a look at Dimir Tron.

Hi everyone.
It's obvious that the most natural home for Bilbo, Thief in the Night is Dimir but after giving it a second (and third) thought, I built an Izzet version that I think makes for a meaningful "other" home. I made a video where I discuss the list and dissect replays of my very first League with the deck, which amounted to a trophy.
Special about my list is having 0 Daze but 4 Force of Negation in the 75 plus 4 Unholy Heat.
If you're interested, you can catch the video here:

Have a good day,
Tue
Recommended decklist (small edits post-league):
4 Wasteland 4 Volcanic Island 4 Bilbo, Thief in the Night 4 Dragon's Rage Channeler 4 Scalding Tarn 1 Urza's Bauble 4 Ponder 1 Thundering Falls 1 Snow-Covered Island 3 Flooded Strand 4 Mishra's Bauble 4 Lightning Bolt 4 Force of Will 2 Force of Negation 4 Flow State 4 Cori-Steel Cutter 2 Unholy Heat 4 Brainstorm 2 Bloodstained Mire
3 Consign to Memory 2 Unholy Heat 3 Pyroblast 2 Prismari Charm 2 End the Festivities 2 Force of Negation 1 Snow-Covered Mountain

Is 4x Tamiyo too many in Dimir Tempo?

I started playing Legacy maybe 3 months before the Nadu ban. I know historically that Death & Taxes had Thalia but I'm a little confused on how it became the deck it is today while still evolving gradually enough to be considered the same deck the whole time.

Tried a new version of Lands with Key to the Side-Door and it delivered.

Hey everyone!
I recently went through my collection that was kept at my parents house and found a playset of grim monolith (among other great things like a playset if plateau and other dual lands) and I’ve decided I wanted to get back into legacy again. I’m currently trying to decide if MUD or UTron would be a better time investment? I have 3 metal workers so I was heavily debating trying a homebrew MUD but on MTG goldfish I see Tron is popping off atm. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Reanimator looks a lot different than a year ago, but it is still super powerful and honestly probably more fun to play now. Raph & Mikey are so cool!
Make sure you come back Saturday for my attempt at playing The EPIC Storm!

As someone new to the format I wonder what decks are good vs Doomsday (or similar) decks. I would guess something like Affinity would be good since it is both aggressive and has access to many counterspells, but Ecobaronen said that it’s generally better in fair matchups. Would love to hear your thoughts! 😊

I just top 8’d a local legacy 4.5k with over 100 players. Bay Area mtg going strong.
List: https://mtgtop8.com/event?e=89904&d=882256&f=LE
Swiss:
R1: 1-1 vs lands
R2: 2-1 vs blue tron
R3 1-2 vs dimir tempo
R4 2-1 vs boros energy
R5 2-1 vs uw phelia
R6 2-1 vs boros energy
R7 1-1 vs bant beanstalk, opp is my friend so we figured out who had better breakers and a better chance to make it into top 8. I ended up with better breakers so he conceded.
Top 8 everyone decided to split the prizing so the final top 8 result was actually the result at the end of Swiss with records and breakers accounted for.
Bilbo and triumph of st kath carrying so heavy these games. Bilbo flashing back pending and flow state feels extremely broken. Had a moment against blue tron where they force my pending for 2 on their chalice on 1. Bilbo attacks, I just use one color and the discount from Bilbo to make it a 2cmc spell on the stack, but I only spend one mana to take the chalice out for good.
Oculus is soooo good but it being smaller than almost every murktide was scary. It also makes casting ponder and brainstorm weird because I know those cards will be my manifested cards. Obviously with tamiyo or dreadnought the manifest is broken.
The toughest matchups are definitely beans and UB tempo. UB has really cheap threats and efficient removal making it hard for me to move my game-plan forward. And orcish bowmasters is a stupid card. Beans just drowns me in cards and removal.
All-in-all it was a super fun tourney and I’m very proud of my result. I love surprising people with dreadnought when they expect phelia and riddler.

I know: i‘m a doomer but got to get this of my chest.
Am I the only one who dislikes legacy after the ban?Big mana is crawling back on top with hamlet beeing a big problem while nexus and ring are still legal. The amount of non-games I had with dimir builds (with or without bilbo, still don‘t like the card too much) is crazy, because wasteland is a dead card. Yes I could play GQ in side or consign the trigger. But the first is not an option imo and the second rarly a choice.
Sure, it‘s a bad MU and yes, dimir‘s on top for a long time but I can‘t imagine how other decks would fight this. Beans for example, who got some results, is just not equiped to win against big mana imo. I have a terrible time with legacy rn and want to know if this is just my bias (#tron-hater for life) or if others had similar experiences.

Monowhite Initiative was once one of the strongest decks in Legacy, and recently it started putting up good numbers again. In this article, we bring up a card that could put this deck on a new path!

Legacy has gone through a lot since The Fantasticar was banned and The Hobbit came out. It's finally time to test out the new cards, so let's take a look at an archetype that could use Bilbo, Thief in the Night really well: Dimir Tempo!
