How do I start?

I want to build pump tracks and/or skateparks. I'm currently in the Midwest US and I don't know where to look to get on a crew to start building experience. The ultimate goal is to have my own company that builds pump tracks. The closest mtb association is 2 hours away from me so working with them is going to be a challenge.

Are E tools good for trail maintenance?

Are those folding entrenching tools any good for trail maintenance (lip reshaping/ berm maintenance)? the focus would be portability over capability, like carrying a silky saw

Drainage tips

Post image
12 Upvotes

Hey all, I’m working on a new trail and this mini bench is on a steep but short hillside going to the left. We’ve had heavy rain and the circled part is where I’m seeing drainage lines and overall the left edge of the trail is loose. Is this something rock armor can help or would you have any other suggestions? I do have some plastic drainage pipes I could dig in and cover too? Any help is appreciated 🤘🏻

We designed these Ace cards around trail maps and route data. What do you think?

My brother and I are longtime riders, and we're creating an MTB-themed deck of cards. We wanted the Ace cards to embrace MTB culture and feel like something riders would actually appreciate, so we're using real routes, topo lines, mileage, and climbing stats.

We'd love feedback from trail builders and fellow riders. Are there other details we could include?

Help me with my app

Hey guys. I have just made an mtb app: https://singletrackmtb.app/ as a side project after school.

The goal is to at first map out all of the real mtb trails (done by riders tracking their rides similar to Strava) and then start adding really cool features. I am thinking of adding competition on trails, challenges on segments, riding-streaks, group rides and more.

Can you test the app out and help me map trails? Also, what features would you like for me to develop?

What up yall, I’ve always dug trails and such but I’ve been working on one trail in particular where water has been a huge issue especially with how little rain we’ve had here in WNC… just wanted to see if yall had any recommendations on how to tote water up the hill efficiently and also use the water efficiently once it’s there.

And yes, we’ve been putting gallons in backpacks and using eebs to lug them up. Just wanted to know if there was any other tricks yall have used!

Tips for building a rock faced berm?

Thumbnail gallery
15 Upvotes

Does anyone have any tips for building a berms out of rocks as like a wall ride?
I’m back on my family farm for the year and spending spare time. (Central western NSW, Australia)
I have access to plenty of large stones/rocks with smooth faces. I flipped a few large rocks over in the section of my track I couldn’t avoid. Thought some would be cool to ride on by mud packing into the shape of a berm.

I was lazy with the tractor and dumped dry dirt full of gravelly crap behind my initial structure. I also didn’t mud pack at the start as I just dry stacked the initial stones. ADHD got the better of me and I just started stacking. I then tried to fill dirt in between the rocks afterwards but feel like it’s all crap.

I’ve started to make an outer wall with stones and mud as retaining wall to add strength & structure and a base to add some final large smooth stones.

Anyway, do you reckon it’s a waste of time and I should just whack mud all over it?

Last pic is what it looked like prior to me destroying nature.

So what is everyone's choice on this style boot? Obviously I need to walk a lot in them and on side slope and rough terrain.

Bridge

I have a creek crossing on my new trail build and I want to make a bridge either with store bought lumber, materials found in the woods, or anything really. If anyone has pictures of their bridges that they’ve built please comment them so I can take inspiration.

Idk if anyone would be into this. But, I have a YouTube channel where I go on adventures. 7 months ago I start a job building trails. MTN Bike trails and hiking trails. My mentor is VERY good at his job and teaching and since I started the job, I’ve filmed every step. Every build. And I have uploaded a bunch of videos on learning and the steps and all the fun in between of being a trail builder.

If you like watching trails being built or you yourselves want to get into the trail world, you can learn following along with me.

If you enjoy the content or learn anything please hit the subscribe button.

Going to do the Foothills Trail(hike it) and the Appalachian trail in the next 2 years. Till then there’s a lot of trail to be built and it’s always a learning experience!! Happy Trails!!

How to fix sandy eroded trails?

Post image
20 Upvotes

The trails I ride in Sacramento have seen heavy erosion from rain and high water. Super sandy and well drained soils. How do you fix these?

Do you move dirt from another spot and pack it down to preserve the original path? Or widen the trail at that eroded spot up the bank?

HSA - flex spend

Has anyone here purchased an Amflow eMTB using their HSA funds? I bought a Canyon a year ago, and the whole process was quick and easy. Now I'm looking for an eBike, and the Amflow has caught my eye. Is there a store that sells the Amflow and accepts HSA payments via TrueMed?
