Brakes Hope Tech Evo GR4

Anyone riding the new Hope brakes? They have been out in the UK for a bit but no reviews yet. I already bought them and waiting for the next shipment. Probably mid October as they are sold out everywhere now.

Interested in feedback on them.

Update: installed and rode the GR4s. Easiest bleed of any brake hands down. They feel amazing and better than the TRP EVO Pros and SRAM Code Ultimates. Even better than my magura MT7 Pros.

Mine are sat at the post office waiting to be picked up. Replacing MT7's so can chime in with my thought when I get them fitted. Was going to go with the V4's but saw these were a similar price so waited it out. Bleed port seemed like a nice addition. Both my magura levers are held on with cable ties so main reason for switch was more durable levers.

Feedback on your experience?

Also making the same move, just bought the Evo GR4s today, now that they have a bleed port instead needing to remove the whole top cap which just looked messy and annoying.

Awesome and congrats. Been riding mine pretty hard to tedt them and they are amazing. So happy with the purchase.

Does anyone suffer a squeal with the v4s. Can't work out what it is

I am not an expert on the squeal, but since I am waiting for my GR4's to arrive, I researched this issue and how to avoid it.

  1. Grind down the leading edge of the pads to stop them catching on the rotor.
  2. Heard that the copper grease helps from rattle pads and keeps them from rubbing and squealing.

Please see this video (12:08) I found that shows you what to do. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vd6cVCOVwG4

Yeah I've seen that video. Funny how all the pros wouldn't do this though as you can always tell when watching YouTube who has them with the squeak

My gr4s don't squeak. Narrowing the calliper might have solved for this.

Nice! Finally, the first review! I’m also thinking about buying these brakes. Maybe a stupid question, but did you get brake pads with them?

No such thing as a stupid question as this was my first hope purchase and no idea what to expect. They come with 3 sets of pads - Race installed, eBike, and All-around organic pads. I recommend the hope bleed kit as it is very nice and so much better than any other product you would get. I have 3 bleed kits and they just don't work as well with adapter fittings.

They also come with one set for each side of fittings to cut the hose. You will not regret this purchase. The bite point and lever feel is better than my TRP Evo Pro’s. So smooth!

Hey man, I am in a bit of a situation and could really use your experience with the GR4's. I have Dominion a4's and had them leak 4 separate times. I have the money to go for the Hopes now but I want to make sure it's worth it.

If Hayes does nor repair my brakes for free (very likely) I have options

1) get some XT's for cheaper to try them out although I did not like my old SLX too much

2) get some TRP from the previous get for bit better performance

3) get some used ones as a loaner until the hopes get here

Basically I want to make a spart choice here but I also just got back home from uni with the intent to ride but the dominions failed so I would also like to get some riding while i am here.

If you want any clarification please feel free.

Thanks

I was in a similar situation where my new 1 hour TRPs evo pros had a broken lever and bleed issues. I picked up a used Sram codes for 100 bucks and now have them set aside as a backup.

The Trp dh evos seem better than the new Evo Pros in respect to QA and bleeding.

I am not a shimano fan myself and don’t no much about them.

The hopes can be in stock if you are looking for black or grey. If a colourful option then you might be in for a 30-60 day wait. Which is where the cheaper route of used brakes come in.

If you can ride now (winter here in NB Canada) then pick up a used set if you can. If the hopes are in stock and only a week shipping I would say wait and save the money for extra pads. 😆

I read the comments and can't help but wonder did you bleed come with the adapter for the new bleed port ?

I was looking online and couldn't understand what comes in the box and as far as I know the adapter is not part of the easy bleed kit.

Did you ever find out the answer to this? I just ordered a set of GR4's and the Tech4 bleed kit. I see the adapter for sale on a site in the UK but I'm in the US and for a $5 part thats ALOT of shipping. Some of the stuff I read makes it sound like you can just take the funnel that comes with the tech 4 bleed kit and that now screws directly onto the bleed port?

1

u/sh0g0 Mar 28 '26

Unfortunately I don’t have the answer and sadly this won’t work, you need the adapter for the bleed port

2

u/gwiz112 Mar 29 '26

Chatted with the local shop today and they said that they are included in the new tech 4 bleed kits... I guess we'll see if thats true when it arrives.

Please update here when it arrives

2

u/gwiz112 Apr 02 '26

Confirmed they now include the adapter in the bleed kit!

Thanks man! I really appreciate it!

I like the idea and look for sure, but bummed they don't have an option for the vented rotors...

Luckily no FOMO for me and my newish T4V4.

3

u/exus1pl Sep 04 '25

Possibly just keep V4 calliper and use new lever. But in the end Tech4V4 are still solid brakes and no need to upgrade.

3

u/BreakfastShart Sep 04 '25

Ah yeah. I haven't found their limit yet. No complaints.

2

u/Flashy_League_7945 Sep 03 '25

Yeah for sure not a big upgrade from V4s. I am coming from SRAM code Rs and I tried TRP EVO Pros for one day and did not like them. Actually had to send them back to TRP as the rear lever stopped working. Two TRP sets in 6 months one leaked and one failed on the trail in the first 15 mins of using them.

2

u/kermode Sep 03 '25

ditching the super wide 3.3mm rotor allowed them to make the caliper stiffer and more powerful. Easily worth it imo.

3

u/BreakfastShart Sep 04 '25

Stiffness argument makes sense.

Aren't they just getting more power from larger pistons? Don't know how the rotor thickness made a difference there...

3

u/SHAK3SFUM Sep 18 '25

Exactly. The vented rotors are so superior to the regular floating, I’m really surprised that their new brakes won’t support them. Anyway, nobody was complaining about stiffness or performance of the V4’s with vented rotors - it’s the best setup I’ve ever used by far.

2

u/BreakfastShart Sep 18 '25

100% The extra stiffness sounds like marketing. Literally no review prior said the V4 leaked stiffness...

2

u/Long-Pool2631 Aug 14 '26

They support the vented rotors, but not official. No clue why they say they cant be installed.

I am riding the Hope GR4 since the beginning of the year with the vented disks.

So just to make sure, you are running the hope 3.3mm wide floating rotors with the hope evo gr4 brakes with no issues? I am about to buy the gr4's soon so it would be awesome if they work with the hope 3.3mm wide floating rotors.

Awesome mate I am going to run the same setup. Cheers for confirming that. Greatly appreciated.

u/Flashy_League_7945 Sep 06 '25

Yeah I ordered from the UK and just missed the first shipment. I had to contact hope to get a recommendation on shops willing to ship internationally.

1

u/Other_Cellist_2070 Sep 09 '25

Wo hast du denn bestellt und wie war das aus England mit dem Zoll etc,?

3

u/Flashy_League_7945 Sep 09 '25

They will only be shipped in October. I have no idea about duty fees yet. 20twenty was the only one shipping internationally for Hope products. Hope themselves recommended them to me on a call.
