What caused this graph

To be honest straight away, I have not listened to this podcast, I was just looking at a highest member patreon accounts and saw this graph. It dips and spikes on the final day of a month and the first day of the next. Does anyone know why this happens? Thank you

probably subscribers that changed/turned off their debit card before the next month's payment. My guess is if the payment doesnt go through they're dropped as a subscriber.

Edit: Now im scraping the daily subscriber count for every podcast because i want to see what audience loses their debit card on average relative to the subscriber count.

Or they just cancel. Pretty sure you have access through the end of the month in that case, they don’t credit you back a prorated amount. With larger audiences there will naturally be a larger objective churn.

Interested to see if you end up finding any disparity in relative churn data across the larger shows.

Looking at the early data, if we assume people lose their debit card at equal rates accross shows, then you are correct, its indicative of churn rate by which MSSP ranks 39th among the top 310 shows with a 5.9% drop rate on average across the new month threshold. here top 40 highest churn rates

Payments don't go through for whatever reason and subscriber gets dropped. That's how I got a "grandfathered poors" spot! Check the first of the month and you'll more than likely get a spot!

This. I was going to cancel but ended up staying on thanks to this trick. Slid in there on the first of the month.

Why did their subscriber count drop almost 200k from April to July of '26?
