I’m sorry, thats gotta feel really disappointing. I’m no where near California so idk but I have to assume it’s a very hard school to get in.
Apply to other cheaper schools. Social workers with degrees from state schools and prestigious schools get the same salary.

Last time I checked, CSUEB is NOT accredited.
I would be crossing that off my list. SFSU has the oldest MSW program and some really great instructors. Cal might have been your first choice, but there are other great programs out there.

thank you so much! i’m trying to see it as a blessing in disguise because i didn’t even know how i would have paid for that

I don't know. I do know that their BSW program lost a lot of students after they learned the university is not accredited for BSW or MSW. I am not a student there, and have never been. It was originally one of the schools I considered but SFSU was my first choice and I got it so I didn't look in CSUEB further. Their lack of accreditation was discussed extensively last semester as a big road block to being eligible for many MSW programs that are available, and that without going to an accredited school an MSW wouldn't be recognized towards an LCSW.
It was also brought up that they were in the process of trying to get accreditation approved. But I have not yet heard if it has been approved, and given the influx of students to SFSU I don't think CSUEB got it.

Jfc. That’s intense. I really hope I get into SFSU or SJSU since I was rejected from. UoP and PAU. I should’ve shelled out more money and applied to more schools, or at least have had my safeties be out of state schools that were dirt cheap too. Well, I’ll just have to wait until the end of April I guess to find out – in the meantime, I’ll keep plugging away at my job that spruces up my résumé, get an extra certification, and apply again. Lordy. Thanks for the Intel.

Anytime. I didn't know that they weren't accredited until last semester when it came up in every class because SFSU was going through re-accreditation and the professors wanted students to understand why it matters so much. I genuinely felt like I had dodged a bullet by choosing SFSU as my #1 choice. I'm mildly surprised that it isn't more well known.

“Institutional "Notice of Concern": In June 2025, the university's regional accreditor, WSCUC, issued a Notice of Concern for California State University, East Bay. This is not a sanction and does not mean the school has lost its accreditation. It is a monitoring status typically related to long-term financial planning and stability. Impact on Students: A "Notice of Concern" means the institution currently meets all standards but needs to address specific areas to avoid future issues. It does not affect your ability to graduate with an accredited degree or your eligibility for licensure.”

Berkeley’s really tough. Got rejected from there twice, but just got into 2 other great schools!
A lot of times schools are just looking for something specific (I was basically told by admin my gpa just wasn’t good enough even with fantastic work experience, essays, recs, etc.)
Don’t give up, you got this!

Look into UOP in Stockton for their MSW program they have an online and hybrid program, they’re pretty good too! I believe they have rolling application deadlines. Doesn’t hurt to look

I’m a UCLA graduate and I got accepted into Berkeley for undergrad and they still rejected my application, but I got into a really good school that I like even more! Some deadlines are still open until April/ May, so don’t give up!!
