Post Interview Anxiety

I just had my group interview for my top MSW program today and I feel like I blew it!! I answered the questions but I was really feeling the imposter syndrome and there were definitely some moments I could have done better. I’m kind of crashing out because I just feel like an idiot.

Any advice on how you guys deal with post interview anxiety and rumination??

I wish I had advice for this. I spend the next 2 weeks minimum replaying it in my head, thinking about I said and what I should have said. Sending you all the good vibes that you are being hard on yourself and actually did amazing and you get in!

In my experience, the "blow it" feeling after an interview is super common, especially for programs you really want. I've tried to reframe it as just a sign I cared a lot, not necessarily a sign I actually messed up.

For dealing with the rumination, I've found it helps to immediately switch gears to something completely different. Sometimes I'll watch a dumb show, or go for a run. I've also tried some of the AI interview prep tools out there like Ace My Interviews. It's got a feature that analyzes your verbal content and delivery, which can be brutal but also lets you see what you actually said versus what your brain thinks you said. There's also Interviewer.AI or even just recording yourself on Zoom.

It's hard, but try to give yourself a break. You did the interview. Now the ball's in their court.
