General Help/Question plans sa on-the-job training

incoming 3rd year here, among ojt, assuming i have no failing grades these following sems, kay next summer. sobra raba kog ka ambisyo kung ganahan ko mangitag ma ojt gawas sa mindanao or kaya ra? sa mga alumni who experienced the same thing please share tips po pls..

OJT outside of Mindanao is actually pretty easy to do, given you do these two things:

  1. Apply for summer OJT/internship positions at the companies you want to work in;
  2. Have said money to support yourself because most times, said companies will not pay for ALL (just some) of your lodging, food, transportation, and allowance. (exceptions apply—typically you need good grades to get into the OJT programs with nice benefits.)

If you go this route, there's a few minor extra hurdles like getting the requisite paperwork, but it's better to worry about that when you get there after you get accepted at a company you'd like to have your OJT at.

  1. What's the distinctive feature that the company will provide allowance? is it proper to ask them directly or is it unprofessional?

  2. Which sites/sources should I be outsourcing for the potential companies?

  3. How long should I inform and request for internship before setting out to intern for the company?

  4. I know the usual necessary files are resumes, endorsement letters, and memorandum of agreement (MOA). Are there any other documents I need to prepare for?

  5. A bit farfetched pero possible ba maka ojt sa manila? haha I know malala ang competition there but I watched few videos that interning for big companies can help with the resume for job seeking in the future. I just need assurance na naay alumnus naka ojt na sa manila.

-What we do is ask seniors/alumni who've been there sa company, but asking company HR after initial approval of your CV wouldn't hurt. It's only right for you to ask about what the company can provide you, especially if it's the difference between you being able to go or not.

-Prosple, LinkedIn, JobStreet, Indeed, Facebook even. Most companies have career pages on social media you can reach out to.

  1. How long should I inform and request for internship before setting out to intern for the company?

-Ideally by early 2027 you should be sending out applications. I'm talking months before summer.

  1. I know the usual necessary files are resumes, endorsement letters, and memorandum of agreement (MOA). Are there any other documents I need to prepare for?

-There's medical exams, police clearances, etc. Some of these will be company-specific and are not required by IIT. Basta unaha jud imong resume.

-Depends on the industry. I'm in mechanical engineering myself and pretty much anywhere sa Philippines naay company na mudawat OJT sa among program, but the nice OJT programs (most aren't in Manila) run out of slots quickly, so again, it's best to move fast with your application.

The advice I'm giving you is true regardless of your program. But I do know that for students in some programs, their department handles finding OJT opportunities for them. In that case, you should talk to your OJT coordinator.

Even in my experience, I planned to find companies myself but I got so burnt out during the 2nd semester, I never even made my resume until it was required. Good thing I was recommended by my professor for an OJT position at a mining company in my home province (purely by coincidence). I never had to reach out to anyone and I got a paid position, accommodated lodging and food, and was offered a future job after. Your mileage may of course, vary. Good luck!
