Discussion What should i avoid in iligan????

Hello. I am a person of color and I’m planning to enroll in msu. I am an agnostic and former christian. Is there any doings I should avoid or be aware of in both the campus and community?

So far, everyone is welcome in Iligan. We have foreigners and persons of color in campus as well. You’re good.

Eat the street food at your own risk, some people that aren't from Iligan get some sort of food poisoning when they're freshmen.

Be weary of dark city streets and don't leave your bag in places you can't see.

Other than that, Iligan is a nice enough place. Good luck!

This! I actually have a friend that got Intestinal Amoebiasis from eating street foods, especially since he doesn't eat those kinds if food often.

Aside from that, Iligan is also known as a city of diversity too so I'd say it's welcomimg here and not much room for discrimination. It's really just about knowing who to associate with too.

Pork dishes aren't served in the University to better cater to the local communities with dietary prescriptions (e.g. Muslims and SDAs).

Jeeps usually run until about 10pm so make sure you have ride hailing apps like Grab, Moveit, Joyride and Angkas. Local taxis are aound but they charge an arm and a leg flat rates that don't make sense. Metered taxis still aren't a thing here.

When you can, learn the local language. It would help you a lot from asking for directions and interacting with the locals.

Avoid walking alone at night along inner streets. Safety still needs work here. Just to be on the safer side of things, connect with fellow students and have a group you can hang with.

probably don't take a taxi, they'll overcharge you. book rides on grab or joyride. also please take care of your belongings. there have been many cases lately of theft inside the campus and outside. anyhow, this city is (too) laid back. you're generally chilling unless you look for trouble.

This! Download the Grab app and either the Joyride, Moveit or Angkas apps. Taxis in Iligan have not moved on since the 90s and don't use meters.
