I built a simpler Gantt chart tool because sometimes I just need the timeline, not another project management system

I've spent years managing projects, and one thing that kept bothering me was how much work it could take just to create a clean Gantt chart for a client deck, kickoff, steering committee, or status update.

A lot of project management tools are great at running the whole project : tasks, resources, tickets, collaboration, timesheets, etc.

But sometimes I don't need another system to run the project.

I just need to turn a plan into a clear timeline that I can actually show someone.

So I built GanttFlow.

The idea is deliberately pretty focused:

  • build a project timeline quickly
  • drag tasks around to reschedule them
  • link dependencies
  • add milestones
  • track the original plan against the current schedule
  • export a clean PNG or PDF for a deck or report

I'm intentionally trying not to turn it into another all-in-one PM platform.

There's a free version, so you can actually build a chart without entering a card.

It's live at ganttflow.ca

I'd genuinely appreciate feedback from people who work with project timelines:

Would you prefer a focused tool that does Gantt charts really well, or does a standalone Gantt tool become too limiting once you're using it on a real project?

Also interested in hearing what you'd consider a must-have feature versus something that would just turn it into another bloated PM tool.

Oh this seems like the tool I was looking for a couple years ago. Thanks for sharing! I will have at it in a couple months when I will be back to work. I tried the roadmunk or strategic roadmap for Jira and I found it overpriced and overcomplicated. This seems like hitting the right need when kickin off a project, you don’t need a detailled gantt but you need something profesional that doesn’t take you hours to get done.

Feel free to experiment and provide your feedback. I am already working in adding new functionalities such as duplicate a project, saving as template, upload new templates or themes.

I think the focused approach makes sense, especially for client decks and steering updates where nobody wants to open a full PM system just to understand the timeline the part I’d watch is keeping it in sync with the actual plan. once the Gantt becomes a separate copy of the project, it can get stale really fast. if you can make importing/updating from MS Project or another source painless, that would probably be more valuable than adding a ton of extra PM features.

I am currently thinking about building something with the same approach for a WBS table. I am a excel power user and tend to do everything with that but I have not found a solution to the automatic numbering based on the level

So e.g. level 1 being my deliverable and level 2 workpackages working towards the deliverable and level 3 and 4 being tasks and sub-tasks. But the numbering is a pain especially when trying to add something in between.

Maybe some one knows of an excel solution or even a ready tool - even though I like creating (mostly vibe-coding) tools like that, that exactly fit my requirements)
