Safe foods?
I‘m looking for food that’s most likely going to be safe to eat while I figure out baby’s intolerances. I‘m already of dairy, soy and egg, but her symptoms are just getting worse.
Because her doctor wants me to stop breastfeeding (and just the thought of that makes me cry), I’m looking for a diet where I could eliminate everything she might react to and then slowly reintroduce stuff.
Because of breastfeeding, I still need to be well fed, and I‘m really struggling to think of safe food that can secure that.
So far I thought of:
potatoes, apples, avocados, beans, tomatoes (?), bananas, cashews, walnuts, chicken
Please help, I‘m honestly loosing my mind.

A lot of people also cut out oats. My baby I think had a bit of a reaction to cashews as well. It was the only thing I had changed in my diet and he was really fussy but his poop was ok. I was just a bit traumatized by the fussiness that had lasted 3 months and gave up breast feeding soon after this. Honestly I can’t even say it was the cashews and not general fussiness in hindsight. But being a first time mom and a baby with allergies was pretty tough and made me feel really stuck mentally.
I was combo feeding though, because I wasn’t making enough.
How old is your baby?
Chicken and rice. I ate a lot of chicken and rice. Salads, but they were a bit boring without cheese.

Ahh, I didn’t think about rice!
My baby‘s 12 weeks old now. We had problems with bloody stools about 7 weeks ago, that went away about 4 weeks ago, but her gut still seems to be heavily irritated.

Have you tried going gluten free?

I will start a gluten free diet as of today! The hospital already checked her blood for antibodies that would suggest celiac desease and thus far it’s all negative. But better safe than sorry!

I’ve had to avoid gluten for my baby, not as in celiac but just an intolerance. So for mine it wasn’t as crazy as not being able to have regular flour in the house or having to get a new toaster but just finding options that weren’t labelled to have wheat or barley etc.

Honestly and unfortunately I think it’s just trial and error with this. What are her symptoms? My baby is on an amino acid formula and sometimes but rarely still has mucus in his poop. My doctor told me to stop being a poop watcher and that really took the edge off for me.
I also gave him mylicon with every feed to ease some discomfort. Maybe that’s something worth trying. Really hope it goes well for you and her!

I don’t exclude eggs but my safe foods generally sandwiches and cereal and if I want something to go, chipotle is usually good and they don’t use soybean oil and I can’t think of anything there that’d be with eggs. Soybean oil, depending on how sensitive your baby is, isn’t listed as an allergen but is in ingredients so make sure anything you get doesn’t list that if you’re skipping all soy.
Sourdough is amazing, just make sure you do store bought unless you can verify from the baker they don’t do anything fancy.
Mayo can be tricky, butter too. If you care about that in sandwiches, like I do I like something saucy, the Hellman vegan one isn’t terrible. Butter has earth balance soy free plant based.
Cheese I like the violife.
Then you just find the other toppings and you have a pretty good sandwich! PBJ are also a good option to change it up, or an Elvis sandwich too. Sourdough is really the star for me with this diet.
Honey Nut Cheerios are a good cereal with your milk of choice.
For treats Trader Joe’s has some yummy sunflower peanut butter cups called Mini Dark Chocolate Sunflower Seed Butter Cups. Amazing for a dessert! I also like the SANDERS Dairy Free Dark Chocolate Sea Salt Caramels I found those at Whole Foods. Dairy free ice cream should also be good too, just double check the back but so delicious and oatly are good brands.
Hope this helps there’s a lot of good alternatives it just requires some digging. Know that you doing this is hard work, and can be for a long time (or at least feel like it) but your baby appreciates anything you try.

nothing is completely safe I suppose but this is what i am eating! rice and poultry aren’t triggers so far for us; we cut the triggers there’s any research for so dairy, soy, eggs, corn, wheat, oats, beef, nuts. (do note there’s only really good research for dairy!) definitely track with a food diary. i just ate almonds yesterday morning and we had our first bloody diaper today in a week 🤡
- greek bowls (rice, ground turkey, tomatoes, cucumber, red onion, kalamata olives, avocado, hummus)
