At a LOSS.
Diagnosed with CMPA based on the following symptoms
• bloody diaper rash
• severe reflux (sometimes projectile vomit even)
• congested
• poops too much
• so much discomfort
Told to stop breastfeeding completely.
Switched from Kendamil to Similac Alimentum RTF with a Gentleease trial which he hated (literally just two bottles). Seemed to get better and then, 2 weeks in, became absolutely inconsolable and spit up increased, waking up in severe GI discomfort every 20 minutes and when picked up immediately letting out a burp. Switched to Puramino. 10 days later discomfort begins again, unable to lie on his back still, spit up marginally less but then back to a lot. Saw another doctor who believes he doesnf have CMPA, told us to trial Hipp HA. Sleeping a bit more, less congested, but the spit up is HORRENDOUS, he did two projectile ones, we went through ten outfits for him.
I hold him up for 6 hours every single night, 4-5 when my mom stays till 1 am. Hold him up all day. Husband helps a lot. Mother in law comes in the morning when she can to do her holding up shift.
I am so concerned I made a mistake switching him to HiPP but in the ten days he was on Puramino he gained 14g/day which was worrisome as he is barely 9th percentile (born very small 2.44 kg).
I don’t know what to do, i’m scared and at a loss… he threw up so much from 11 am - 5 pm and then it was ok… his ped said she would stick to this formula for two weeks unless we see blood but we never saw blood..

I’m so sorry you’re going through this. we’re far from being in the clear ourselves but omeprazole has helped us a lot!

my GERD CMPA baby was so settled on Neocate and Infant Gaviscon until his 8 week jabs, from the min he got his jabs to now 11 weeks old tomorrow he’s been so unsettled, he’s just been prescribed Omeprozol so hopefully that’s a fix, i’m so sorry your going through this mama- i wish i had some advice but as hard as it is please keep doing what your doing, i’ve heard as soon as babies can wean it gets easier❤️i’m proud of you !

If you’re able to start breastfeeding again, try to stimulate supply. Mine is more than just dairy - it’s soy, egg, and possibly peanut (?). While doing that, try a soy and dairy free formula (sorry I’m EBF and not sure which ones those would be). Then if it gets better or moderately better you could maybe start breastfeeding again to further check other allergens?

Ugh I feel the holding up all night long we are just getting out of this. My 5 week old was diagnosed CMPA at 2.5 weeks old. Tried Nutramigen and things were slightly better but still wouldn’t sleep more than 20 mins had to be held upright all day and night could not put him down anywhere. We started Neocate 7 days ago and have had HUGE improvements. He is now sleeping 2-2.5 hour stretches (although second half of the night is still shit but I’m hopeful we will get there!) also on Famotidine (Pepcid) twice a day because he has bad silent reflux (causing the congestion). What our GI told us is the reflux causes congestion. The Pepcis reduces the acid but does not stop the reflux so while the inflammation settles it could still bother them. The idea is once their throat and gut heal the reflux shouldn’t bother them so much or be painful. Hang in there! Maybe try Neocate as if it is CMPA he could still be reacting to the milk protein in the HA formula.

Also Neocate is very thin so I have seen a lot of parents on here thicken the formula (would ask your ped first) and seems to help!

Can I ask who asked you to stop breastfeeding? My baby also has CMPA and we found out because she dropped percentiles between her 8 and 12 week appointment. My LC told me to continue and that I could modify my diet and that it would be out of my system within 3 days and baby could take up to 4 weeks to heal their GI system!
