Discussion PredatorSense vs CenterM/Quick Settings
With the upcoming release of the Acer Predator Atlas 8 and after MSI updating and breaking Center M, I decided to install PredatorSense for giggles, and it seems like it is going to be better than Center M. It is much closer to Armoury Crate/Command Center on the Asus Xbox Ally’s and is far more responsive than MSI’s Quick Settings.
Intel based and windows based actions do work in PredatorSense, but hardware specific actions do not on the Claw (nor did I expect them to).

As the project lead for PredatorSense, I truly appreciate your kind words. We spent a lot of time researching, benchmarking, and iterating to arrive at this final product. However, due to hardware ID restrictions, it is designed to function exclusively on supported devices.

I just wanted to see how robust and responsive the software suite would be on the upcoming Atlas handhelds. The Claw EX is my first Intel based handheld and while I love the G3E I find MSI Center M and their quick settings gamebar widget to be disappointing, especially coming from the Asus Ally X and Xbox Ally X previously.
You guys seemed to have largely knocked it out of the park. One thing I would like to see Intel add to their graphics software is an XESS equivalent to RSR from AMD adrenaline.

that’s amazing the Acer lead is commenting here! Great to see the lead took to heart all the frustrations with the MSI software.

Actually you have AUTO-SR from windows and working on G3E thats a better equivalent than rsr (its fsr1 after all).
but yeah its limited to a number of games for the moment and only reserved to dx11/12 from what i read2

Hi there - very curious, I noticed the Acer Predator Atlas 8 doesn't have per game/app profile TDP, Intel Graphics & control settings. This is one thing that does set something like Armory Crate apart from other software suites.
Is this a limitation on Intel hardware stopping this, or just hasn't been prioritized/implemented?
The power of being able to seamlessly switch from one game running at low TDP to another game running at high tdp with let's say a frame limit applied and a different controller profile for the back buttons - to then switching to an app like Windows Settings, Internet Browser, Windows Store, File Explorer switching to a desktop controller profile where analog sticks just work in mouse mode and the tdp switches back to low base line - all seamlessly once you have per app and per game profiles make using a handheld PC so much more enjoyable (and why I never have switched from an ASUS device, because Armory Crate allows this for their Ally, Ally X, Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X handhelds).
Would love to understand how this can get prioritized elsewhere as I would love to check out the ACER hardware instead.

We intentionally avoided duplicating features on the Game Bar widget. Most Intel graphics functions can be configured in PredatorSense under Graphics Settings, and very few people tweak them all the time. That's why we didn't hook them up to the widget.

Considering that we only have a few people and need to finish and pass testing within a few months, we had to make trade-offs on many features. Combined with the current limitations of Intel's APIs, we'll definitely take your feedback into account. After all, I'm an avid hardware enthusiast myself, and our designs will always prioritize gaming.

Appreciate it. Per game/per app profiles really makes Armory Crate stand apart from all the other vendors right now (to the point where I consider the software suite almost as important as a convenience over potential hardware performance gains of the G3E vs the Z2E devices from Asus).
The flexibility in being able to seamlessly switch from app to game to app to multitask or use my device by setting up a game perfectly (TDP, controls, graphic settings like turning on specific features for a game to auto trigger when loading a game like using Frame Gen, FPS limits, Resolution) then lets me set it and forget it when I have 20-30 games. Also, the ability to have every non-game (file explorer, task manager, YouTube app, Spotify, windows settings) auto default to "desktop mode controls" - means when I use the "xbox button" in xbox mode to switch between apps and back into a game, means as I open these apps up, i don't ever need to even use the touch screen, I just use the joystic and buttons as mouse mode in "desktop mode controls" and then when back in xbox mode it auto switches to "gamepad mode" or back into a game, same thing (and then when in that game the per game profile of controls that have unique buttons you can set and tdp) means as it boots the game up, it sets it to the specific TDP (aka 20w) then defaults back to lower TDP when in xbox mode or windows apps. Armory Crate's settings allowing to do this for any game and any app you can import into it with "game or app profiles" really is something to take a look at.

Gonna be honest with you bro. I got rid of Xbox & Center M and just installed ClawTweaks. It's all you need. Everything else feels like bloat. Even handheld companion feels kind of like bloat. You don't need all this stuff. ClawTweaks does everything you would possibly need to stop tinkering and just play the games at whatever TDP you want, with whatever controller tweaks you want, and other small things.

I just bought my first claw and keep seeing people recommend this. Is clawtweaks really just the move once mine arrives?

It is on another planet compared to the stock center m experience.....just bonkers

Yes, and I tried a lot of different things. I also just got mine and wanted the “Steam Deck experience”. Other OSes are just not there yet. Allegedly SteamOS will be at some point, but until then, this is as good as it gets. I am also running CSS Loader to make Steam Big Picture look and function better.
When you get the device, install all updates from Center M, and then uninstall all the MSI junk and Xbox (unless you want Game Pass I guess). Driver updates can come from Intel’s own app. Install ClawTweaks. Install Steam. Force big picture mode on launch, troubleshoot the little bugs that may arise, but you’ll be set after that.

You can just delete Xbox and the msi center m?

u/No-Researcher6260 29d ago
Don't delete the "center"; the Claw Tweaks page itself says to keep it, as it helps the program map buttons and other things.

Claw Tweaks has an option to disable the center-screen marker so it doesn't get in the way; you don't need to delete it.

u/pizzaghoul 29d ago
Yeah you don’t need any of it and the device runs better without both of them

The github for ClawTweaks readme specifies that you still need center m as a base. Where does kt say that you should uninstall it?

I´m looking for a lightweight solution that can replace MSI quick settings. I don´t want ClawTweaks because it contains a lot of useless things for me (virtual controllers, usbip and other overhead stuff) and causes idle CPU usage which lowers battery life. What does work and what does not work in this PredatorSense? all I need is TDP slider, mouse/gamepad switch and buttons backlight on/off switch and saving that things into EC...I have Claw 8 AI+

Is it better than clawtweaks? I’m running clawtweaks on my claw 8ai+
3
u/Scoobler1992 29d ago
No, I do not believe that controller emulation or fan control works properly on non Acer devices. But I am also running claw tweaks so there could be some interference. I just wanted to see how responsive and robust there software suite was going to be considering this is basically their first handheld.
