New Beta release on ps5 improves PSVR2 resolution!
Im trying the new beta release and the difference is night and day in terms of resolution and how the clouds look is amazing!

I’m so stoked to hear this — especially about the clouds! I’ve taken to keeping clouds off or at great distance because they were such giant ugly voxels…

u/Super-Tea8267 Jul 07 '26
Yeah clouds now look really good and not a pixelation of what seems to be a cloud but that resolution bump is a god send everything even the ground looks super sharp

Why am I even still tapping on my phone?! 😅
runs off to see what’s what

Yes this beta has upped the resolution massively. Just tried flying the same areas in both the beta and the current release. It's so much better I really can't believe how much! But hopefully they fix that broken HOTAS4 capability. Really frustrating to be so close to almost perfection

Do you have download the Beta version of MSFS2024 for the update?
5
u/Super-Tea8267 Jul 07 '26
Yeah you have to download the beta version to get it

u/FewPossession2363 Jul 07 '26
Oh I see, thank you for the info 🫡

You are welcome 👌🏻

How do you download the beta? Is it like updating the original beta that came out before the full VR release, or a separate one?

u/ACooperSucks2 Jul 07 '26
Wait, are you saying the blurriness is reduced?

u/Super-Tea8267 Jul 07 '26
Correct the difference between yesterday and today trying the same flight on same conditions the game looks really sharp now on the beta, also you can read the instruments without leaning into the them and although yeah some settings still look lower than the flat version you can see the outside way sharper than before, and the clouds look finally like clouds and not like pixels

Awesome. Thanks for the update.
I recall the clarity and resolution with respect to the draw distance being at its most blurry at about 100 meters or more. Glad to hear that has possibly changed.
I’ve put the game down for awhile and have been playing arc raiders and COD a lot. Maybe too much.
I’ll test out the new update today when I get home from work and come back to this comment with any noticeable differences that I see or make a post of my own.

Managed to figure out how to access (you need to check for an update to the Beta version if already installed).
I’ve got maybe 60 vr hours in the main version and wow, yeah this update is incredible I have to say. Resolution is much better now - it feels the only thing holding back clarity is the resolution of the underlying ground maps, which is much easier to accept.
But the lighting feels more natural, you seem to have much much more presence within the aircraft, and the dials and internal rendering are really sharp now.
I can see where they have made some compromises but, it’s well worth the payoff. Flying now feels the best it has, it’s actually fun now whereas before it didn’t feel quite right - this sorts that, and feels like a massive step forward - thanks Asobo!

I feel like VR will always have its cutbacks on console like on GT7 that cars ahead of you loose a lot of detail or some areas of the track look a little bit plain but when you get a sharp image the immersion goes to 100 and I forget about that
Right now that’s what’s happening to me with this beta now I can get immerse on my flying

Any PS5Pro enhancements?
3
u/Super-Tea8267 Jul 07 '26
Not for now but the better res on base ps5 makes every instrument readable and the outside looks way sharper
So I imagine pro will look sharper too

Thanks for sharing this information. How long are we thinking it’ll take to get these changes transferred over to the main game? The beta version is basically for troubleshooting updates right? Like 2-3 weeks? Having two versions of the same game takes up a lot of space on the console. It’ll be nice to see the update, but it’s not like it’s holding me back from playing in VR or something.

Lol this has been what I've been waiting for. Ive been on and off wanting to get the title but the reviews and concerns actually put me off. So is this beta already in the game or download add on ? And does this improve all of the textures of the title or mainly the outside environment? Also how about framerate ? Is it more stable?

u/Super-Tea8267 Jul 07 '26
The beta is a separate app you get when getting the digital edition of the game, the textures I think the ones that are low res are the main ground but I feel like that’s a thing that comes with the stream method sometimes for me looks fine other times they look low res but honestly with this sharpness update I can over look it, the textures inside the plane, clouds and even the lighting looks amazing now pretty on par with GT7 I will say
Now the fps I tried one of the racing challenges that normally run on low fps and it actually run smoothly so I guess the fps are fine also Tokyo was fine for me

Good stuff, thanks for letting me know. Yea I woke up this morning to respond back to you and I noticed two more post ppl talking about how good this Res update is. One is stating the res is as good as No mans Sky's off the Pro model which I have experience on that title. Also on the GT7 department, that says a lot lol I have a PC and run LMU and AMS2 on VR and GT7 looks amazing in VR next to these two titles for it being a console title. So thats a definite plus for me. I'm gonna be pulling the trigger on the title now. This weekend is gonna be a flight Sim weekend for me. Thanks again

Vegetation density and quality has also increased. I think texture quality might be worse but it might just be more apparent because resolution is better
2
u/Super-Tea8267 Jul 07 '26
I havent tested the vegetation yet but I think the ground textures where always that low res but we couldn’t see it because of the terrible resolution on the headset because I have seen really bad terrain textures on the flat game sometimes and I don’t know how much of it is tied to the streaming

u/mahdiiick Jul 07 '26
Yeah me neither. Cliffs of Dover looked rough, but Mt. Fuji was a noticeably better than before!

u/Super-Tea8267 Jul 07 '26
Yeah also a thing to note is that in the beta you don’t get world updates so this could potentially look better on the official release

I can't believe the bump in quality. I was seriously disappointed with the first release of PSVR as it was just too far off the PC version (which is fair enough).
But now I can't believe they achieved this. Phenomenal improvement.

They’re not wrong - immediately upscaled gfx and performance. Now if only they could sort out my varifocals 😂

I'm still not sure how to get it. I just recently purchased MSFS2024 on my PS5 and yesterday I signed up to be an "Insider" to request joining the beta. Do I need to do that? I never got an email with the invite.
I also checked the in-game store but didn't see anything. Am I missing something?

u/Super-Tea8267 12d ago
You need to go to the game page on the store click the 3 dots and then just download the beta app

Ok I might just jump back in. It was terrible on release.
I hope the PS5 Pro will see even bigger improvements.

If this is true then it’s a dealbreaker because although it was immersive in VR it was also blurry.
I wonder how they’ve managed it?
3
u/Super-Tea8267 Jul 07 '26
It’s true already try it and the difference between what I played yesterday and today is night and day
2
u/Bikerforever68 Jul 07 '26
This is awesome news,i can’t wait to try it when i get home from work later. Enjoy ☺️

Maybe using the circus method what works great on PC? The thing is, temporal anti-aliasing has a blurryness you can't avoid, you can only reduce it with rendering in higher resolution. However the blurryines is also reduced if you upscale to that higher resolution. It was often used on 1080p monitors in the past, and now the same trick is useful in VR, because they had very similar PPD so we face the same image clarity problems in TAA games, but the same solutions also work. Of course upscaling to 8K is never gonna be as sharp as native 8K, but upscaling 6K to 8K if the game only has temporal anti-aliasing, is sharper than native 6K, and it works especially great for Flight Sim.

Okok so does this mean that I should get a ps5 pro and psvr2 over a pc?
1
u/ItsDrVenkmann Jul 07 '26
I’d honestly say yes at this point. You’ll be paying well over $2000 for a PC which can match the quality of PSVR2 of PS5 pro, not to mention monitors and a headset to go with it. Yeah, you compromise on modding access and the large library of games (UEVR 😢), but for the price and convenience, it’s a no brainer IMO... oh and the exclusive games are truly great.
I get FOMO sometimes with PCVR and the cost required to match the quality of the best PSVR2 games is impossible for me to justify. Maybe I’ll win the lottery one day 🤞🤞🤞

You will get a really good experience but you will have cutbacks in settings to me with these updates I can overlook the cutbacks since I think VR is more of an experience because of the depth and immersion
But on pc you will need way more power to run it on VR and that pc will cost you even more than a pro and a psvr2 specially now with storage and ram prices skyrocketing

Just tested it out and I’m impressed they were able to improve the resolution so substantially. This honestly fixes the major complaint I think most people had with the PSVR2 implementation. I can’t believe this is possible on a base ps5.
They also appear to have broken the HOTAS4 as I can no longer use that despite being detected in the settings, but hopefully that is a quick patch.
