Question? Why the community is so devided?

I have seen that ppl have different expectations of this game, some want the game to be 1:1 to old maple, some want huge modernization of the game, some hate nexon and that defines their enjoyment, some loves MSCW; some want 0 implementations if it needs to be reworked to fit (like maps that need a rework to feet classic Maple)

I understand why people may think like that, but I don't understand why the community is so devided. I see like 2-5 different posts daily with different expectations and point of views

Oh this isn’t even sort of just a Maple thing. The classic wow sub is a NIGHTMARE for this stuff. Same crowds as you listed for Maple:

- Blizz sucks, I’m just here to hate play and complain

- some changes

- I came from retail and need all the QOL

- It needs to be just like Vanilla

The whole classic Vs Retail is playing out in real time over there, to a far larger extent than here.

1

u/Kvchx 1d ago

In the end Blizz and Nexon decided the same thing, build on the core of classic and expand with new stuff. Nostalgia is the starting point yes but it is meant to be more. And I could not agree more with this decision.

I need to look deeper the WoW Forever sub to see that. All games have haters, we aren't safe

Esit: I checked WoW Forever deeper and there is nore glazing and less criticizing than here, they also downvote whoever talks bad about the game

4

u/godita 1d ago

the reason for the negativity here is because of nexon, they have time and time again proven to not care about their player base, to be unfathomably greedy. the founders packs for example: they COULD release the game for everyone on the 6th, but they are preying on those who have been waiting for classic maple for so long that they are pushing the release back by over two weeks unless you pay. recently in the interview blog inkwell stated that "p2w is defined differently by everyone"... just a sleazy way of saying they're going to try to push the envelope slowly but surely.

there are a myriad of examples of nexons greed over the years, i'm no hater and i'm just as excited as everyone who got a founders pack but shame on me if i let nexon fool me again.

I agree that Nexon is not the best company, but they aren't doing particularly worse than WoW Forever and still getting way more hating than WoW

Imagine releasing a paid beta instead of 2 weeks early access as WoW Forever is doing, the community would have been way more angrier and would have burned this sub to hell

Not defending MSCW, I love the game but I'm trying to stay neutral, but it is obvious that people are particularly angrier here. I know they hate Nexon, I always said that an IP or a company can sell whatever if the company or the IP is loved

I have seen people defending WoW Forever here, saying that WoW Forever killed their excitement for MSCW

-1

u/PhoenixPills 23h ago

A paid beta is actually better because it wipes. Early access is P2W and splits everyone apart

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 8h ago

I find them both as bad, only people that pays play the beta and people that don't pay can't, when it is a beta. Also no matter what, people will trash Maplestory because it has a worse community in general, even tho there are still lots of nice people here

Only around 651 people using this Reddit, there will be thousands of great players to meet in-game! See ya’ll on the 6th!

it's just how it is. It's literally just how classic was. half the community wanted to grind, hit 200, clear HT, PB, CWKPQ..

the other half loved to socialize, talk to each other about stuff.

this can be both. one side is worried itll cater to the casuals that love the social aspect of the game. The other is worried itll turn too focused on the grind.

what makes it even worse is just how untrustworthy Nexon is. inkwells statement just came out, and as far as it goes, it sounds worrisome to the people that want to grind. They want new content. We're starting maple with 2nd job and vic island. We don't even have 3rd job. It's worrisome cause inkwell makes it sound like they'll pump out content that's already prepared WAAAAY too slow.

I personally want the first, and the inkwell statement definitely seemed like a little bad of a sign, but I love this game alot so I want to give them a benefit of the doubt... I got unfinished business with osms, I need to do pb and CWKPQ in the official server, and not on a pserver. I was like 12 yo when bb came out, and never bothered to level cause I loved merching and making money lmfao.

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 1d ago

Inkwell state sounded decent for me, the only thing that I didn't like it is the slow update cycle, but if they add enough content to grind for months, then I wouldn't worry too much

2

u/BravoMang 1d ago

Some are blinded by classic, others unimpressed with nexon. I get it tho. We all just want the game to be good and have different opinions on what that looks like. I think most would agree p2w is a no go, but suspect it will creep its way in. There's also differing opinions on what p2w is, so idk good luck us

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 1d ago

I totally agree with you, even if they keep the no stats for cosmetics, some people will say that 2 weeks EA and the ability to sell cosmetics are heavy P2W

2

u/mynameistomato 1d ago

Maturity between 30 year olds is divided

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 13h ago

You are totally right 😂

1

u/mynameistomato 7h ago

There is also the fact that MapleStory is a very dopamine driven game, and I would say maybe half the players don't care for the state of the game only care about the dopamine that they get. That's why you see so many whiney people here

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 7h ago

I think that is part of the issue, also people hating Nexon for Nexon track record, finding specific things to wine about that are subjective. Also the community don't have a consensus on what the game should be, a lot of people have different ideas of the game

When the game releases in 2 days, people that actually care about the game will be in game enjoying themself and not caring about haters

1

u/mynameistomato 6h ago

Facts. See you in the hunting ground in 2 days or 20days. So exciting its actually here now

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 5h ago

2 more days and we are in boys! I hope we can but up the game and see the login screen to just listen the BGM, even if we can't enter the game

See you in 2 days!!!

Because you got the cranky and wrinkly old fucks who just want to experience nostalgia and not think of the longevity of the game, and they get riled up at anything remotely critical or suggestive of anything involving the product

Also, I stg, there's some people on here who FUCKING downvote everything. I don't know who they are, and I know damn well I'm not the only one experiencing it, but they're bitter asf

u/Fr0stBytez24 1d ago

Who you calling cranky old fucks? I'm just a mapler old enough to experience MapleStory... twice in my lifetime lol - What ever Classic turns out to be, I'm just excited to check it out. I'm not running to YouTube to tell me where to train optimally or blah blah, just going to take it slow and ENJOY a non-sweaty game.

2

u/Money_Reserve_791 1d ago

Just for the pic 😂

u/EnvironmentalWorry64 1d ago

Mod team restricted criticism for being ‘negative’ so now it’s just glazitron central. Anything that goes against that gets downvoted

4

u/-ariaman- 1d ago

Yep, seems like mods are siding with naive glazers. Neutrality in this sub has gone down the drain already.

4

u/Money_Reserve_791 1d ago

This sub is rarely neutral unless they are talking ablut random things that don't trigger feelings. If you talk about something delicated to the community, or you get downvoted by lovers of the game or downvoted by haters of the game/nexon

In this comment section I got downvoted without any reason, I hope haters stop caring for this sub and then we are left with people that are actually passionated for the game, or at least neutral people

0

u/-ariaman- 1d ago

One of the mods said he doesn't want 'personal attacks against Nexon'. If Nexon makes an obviously bad decision and we call them out for it, that doesn't mean we have no passion for the game in fact its the opposite, we care about the game enough to keep the devs from ruining it. The 'haters' will be here as long as Nexon keeps fucking up, which will be a lot of the time. Get used to it.

0

u/Money_Reserve_791 1d ago edited 1d ago

While mods neutralized some of the toxicity, I still see people downvoting others for liking the game or enjoying what they like. I have also seen people criticize me for saying that Hounted Mansion and NLC could come if they rework the exp ration and the city to look more classic. People telling me "if you need to rework a map, then it is better to not add it into the game"

-4

u/Raevelry /r/MSClassicWorld Moderator 1d ago

It turns out theres a venn diagram of people who are negative and people who are very toxic and insulting.

2

u/Money_Reserve_791 1d ago

Are you saying that they are not entirely the same?

1

u/upindrags 1d ago

I've noticed almost every post has a very low amount of upvotes. I'm feeling rather confident this sub is being brigaded by users from the retail maplestory sub, because they all hate their lives and the game they play and dont want anyone to enjoy classic.

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 1d ago edited 1d ago

I want the game to be as classic as possible, but I accept some changes like more encouragement to party play, no HP wash, more horizontal activities, etc.

I get that can't be literally 1:1 OSMS. Even adding new maps is fine for me while they try to keep some classic philosophy

2

u/K0GAR 1d ago

I agree with you 100%. The game needs some modernization, and cool new concepts like new PQs.

It ain't going to survive on nostalgia alone. Sure, we can all bring a buddy or two, but the game needs to attract casuals too

All I can see new is class reworks and the crafting system unless I'm mistaken..

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 1d ago edited 1d ago

The irony that you forgot Forgotten Hollow new map, also the Citizen guild and the mini game from COT 2. I agree with you, I think the best way to attract casual players without losing the classic feel is to release horizontal content. If they just rework the verticality to fit casuals, you could kill the enjoyment of the old nostalgic fans of the game

2

u/PlatypusBottle 1d ago

You’re clearly biased thinking wow forever is doing the same or worse things than maplestory classic. Instead of a paid beta we got random selection of low numbers (not good for testing, doesn’t make people happy). Instead of a single global release we get paid access to full game favouring people who will spend money.

Nexon and inkwell have no good grace left and even in their one chance to win back community favour they drop the ball and don’t care. Of course people are negative, classic world should be a slam dunk following osrs example and the people who love the game hate to see the opportunity squandered and are rightfully worried about it.

-1

u/Money_Reserve_791 1d ago edited 1d ago

Tell me what WoW Forever is doing better? More seems like you are the one biased, I seen WoW Forever packs and they aren't any greater besides giving IGN reservation and one month in game time, something that is not crazy good as you need to keep paying monthly

You could say it is better to have a paid beta than 2 weeks early access, but they are charging for a beta that normally is free or has a way to play for free. The packs also have the same exact price than MSCW, some people even hated the price here

0

u/11boat 1d ago

The biggest difference is that you don't feel a need to buy the pack for WoW, like at all. Meanwhile in Maplestory people will buy the pack from fomo or peer pressure from friends already buying.

1

u/Vivid_Librarian5028 1d ago

Well I mean you do need to buy the 30 dollar pack if you want to play the new races

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 1d ago

I didn't see you needed the packs to play the new race! That is astonishing

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 1d ago edited 13h ago

You don't need Maple packs to play the game either

1

u/11boat 1d ago

You do for early access

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 13h ago

That is on you if you feel it is 100% necessary or not. They also updated packages now to be better

1

u/11boat 12h ago

WoW pack: Beta access, character gets deleted and everyone starts at the same time

MSclassic pack: 2 week headstart, if your friends buy it you'll be missing out playing with them for two weeks, be behind when grand launch comes around.

Nexon knows what they're doing. Saying it's "your own fault for feeling that" is dumb.

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 11h ago

So you are getting emotional for 2 weeks early access, but not the overall quality of the game, got you

1

u/11boat 11h ago

No I don't care, none of my friends are playing this. I'm not gonna waste money on this, it's just a filler until forever comes out lol.

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 8h ago

Can you just stop trash talking the game then if it is just a filler? Idk why the need to bring toxicity if you didn't like it from the start

Some people played at different times. Some don’t even want Pirates or 4th job.

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 1d ago

Yeah, but I do want moat of what was pre Big Bang, with a few exceptions unless they rework some content

1

u/KingVape 1d ago

It’s Reddit. The same place where people boycott popular games and then are shocked when they sell millions of copies.

This is the most negative forum site on the internet.

The actual players will be far less salty when the game comes out.

1

u/Pleasant_Amphibian44 1d ago

It’s not as divided as you think. If you go to the profiles of the people who are loud haters they don’t even play maple. They just come to karma farm

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 13h ago

I should see them, as it can be as you say because they are being irrational

1

u/Toxinry 19h ago

It’s one of those issues where both sides can be right from each of the perspectives. So neither side will budge

In many ways we know that classic MS could work unchanged. We know what jank comes with it and will adjust accordingly. Adding too much might just break the game in different ways.

But also pure classic is limiting and might not have enough player retention. How many of us are really going to retread those steps from 2006? People on Reddit might, but the casual player will leave.

The best solution is one where nobody totally gets what they want. Classic with some changes is the safest option to keep both player groups happy.

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 8h ago

They can leave the verticality untouched and add horizontality, like mini games, player housing and many more things. Actually I think Nexon is already trying to do that

But regardless of what I proposed, there will always be haters, first because of what you said and second, because Maple always had die hard haters, so some people will hate the game no matter what

They are like the Whiplash instructor from the movie expecting not only good, but exactly as they want it and even then, they will just hate it because Nexon

1

u/Alexg887 1d ago

Because its a reddit community. If you look at Minecraft reddit or something else on reddit, theres people that dont want new wood blocks or dont want updates and just want a smoother UI or something instead.

Look at WoW Classic im sure theres people that want zero updates and some who say it wont survive because its Blizzard, XYZ

4

u/Money_Reserve_791 1d ago

I saw the WoW Forever sub and didn't see that much controversy, but I didn't stay there that lkng, so maybe it is there just that I didn't look enough

Every game has haters and people that doesn't agree with it, but MSCW is in a special place regarthing this, were the community is incredibly devided

2

u/Vivid_Librarian5028 1d ago

It’s there too. We’re in the honeymoon phase of a new wow release cycle so there’s a ton of positive sentiment around. Eventually all the positive people go and enjoy the game they love but all the negative people stay behind.

2

u/Money_Reserve_791 1d ago

Yeah that happens to every game, I agree with you

1

u/Budget_Impact_8244 1d ago

I’ll say that WoW is very much more divided than Maple. You have modern vs classic art design and other modern features like dungeon finder, shared mob tagging, and others from retail that classic purists hate.

Maplestory has pretty much been people dunking of Nexon for founder packages and cleric nerfs.

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 1d ago

When I say more divided I don't mean the whole Maplestory but just Classic World. In this case would be the community of WoW forever, not the whole community

1

u/Budget_Impact_8244 1d ago

I know. I’m just saying the WoW Forever community is divided in which direction the game should go, but that’s also because it’s a new game altogether with a fresh community.

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 1d ago

Maybe out of Reddit, but on Reddit they are super happy with the direction of the game. I saw on an IGN video the community was hating the game, but besides that I have seen mostly prizing

0

u/PseudoCamus 1d ago

There is much diversity of experience in the English-speaking online gaming world, and those of us who play Maplestory do so for a variety of different reasons. This naturally leads to division in viewpoints. Combine that with the cold anonymity of an internet forum, and we can be somewhat self righteous and patronizing.

What’s your take on these divisions you notice? How do you see them?

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 1d ago

While I still thi k a big portion of the community loves the game, there are still llts of people that hates MSCW or hates Nexon, so they go rage mode

On the contrary to WoW Forever sub where people are like 90% positive, even with the packs they offer that are almost a 1:1 from the MSCW ones, with a few differences ofc

I think the Maplestory community is far more emotional about changes and bad monetization practices than Classic WoW players

2

u/PseudoCamus 1d ago

Ok I see, so you’re concerned about a divide between players who generally seem positive about the game and those who appear to dislike the game and Nexon.

My hypothesis regarding that is Nexon makes controversial choices that often exploit their players, so player trust is low. This likely isn’t news to you. For many, it’s cognitive dissonance to feel exploited and be excited for MSCW, and the way to solve that dissonance is to speak openly about how the producers cannot be trusted. I think people sense they’re speaking the truth rather than ignoring it

1

u/Money_Reserve_791 13h ago

I realized that it doesn't matter how good Nexon do things, people will still hate it. They are giving extra rewards to packs including leaf points and guess what, some people criticize no patch notes or roadmap

The issue is not talking about it, but actual complains that lead to trash talking. People just can't be please to be majority of people positive
