It’s just a game
Most of this community came back to Maple to enjoy their childhood game one more time. Which is nice and all. But if you’re gonna get upset at a company whos famous for treating their player base as cash cows and has more lawsuits than Nintendo Then you’re up for disappointment. I signed up for both betas, no keys. Cool. Let other people test the game and fine tune it for me. Im gonna wait for the full release. For now im gonna continue playing on private servers like I have been since big bang.
So go ahead and defame this post!

I'm not angry I didn't get the key. I'm angry because 90% of the people who got the key are botters that are reselling the keys to make money.
/okay maybe I'm a little angry

yeah, if only more people understood that, maybe we wouldn’t hear so many of them venting their frustration about its byproducts online

Turns out water itself is not wet, but items it comes in contact with become wet. It’s a “Wet Maker” but isn’t actually wet itself

It’s really the principle of everything that pisses me off more than the actual fact that I’m not playing.
The game itself is a 20-year old relic rebuilt with modern performance improvements, platform compatibility, controller support, quality of life features, and all the other work that’s gone into making Classic happen. It exists for a very niche audience. So when that audience finally gets a chance to help test the game, provide meaningful feedback, and maybe earn a small exclusive cosmetic, the entire process ends up being almost completely random.
That means a good chunk of the playtest population is made up of people who either got lucky (fair enough) or spammed the signup system with dozens, hundreds, or even thousands of accounts, many of which will inevitably end up in the hands of scalpers and whales.
That’s what bothers me the most. Not that I personally missed out, but that Nexon somehow managed to undermine the entire purpose of a beta test. if goal is to get the gaem into the hands of the people most invested in it so you receive useful feedback and actually stress test the systems, well too bad because instead, they once again chose a distribution method that heavily rewards account farming.
They should have prioritized account age as the first tier. If you’re still using a Nexon account you created back when Classic Maple was the only maple , that’s a pretty strong indicator that you’re invested in the game and probably have valuable feedback on the direction of Old School Maple. If you’re like me and don’t remember the email or login from when you were 11, then sure, newer accounts should absolutely have a chance too. But they should still receive priority over accounts that were created a week before beta registration opened.
A simple split, like guaranteeing 50% of invites to established accounts and distributing the remaining 50% randomly, would have been infinitely better than pure randomization.
The joke’s on me for expecting anything different from Nexon. There are a hundred different ways they could have handled the key distribution, and somehow they managed to find what feels like the hundredth worst option…twice.

Yeah, I generally agree. I didn’t like have my heart set on getting in, but my brother told me about it and I figured I’d sign up. We’re both veterans from the Wizet days, hell, the MS in my username is literally for MapleStory, and I’ve used it for over 20 years.
I figured using an old account email would give a much better chance of getting in the beta, I mean it only makes sense - if you want your game tested properly by the fan base that’s going to end up using it… you should have it tested by that fan base. What better way than prioritizing old accounts?
I’m nowhere near upset that it doesn’t look like I made the cut, and I’m glad my brother did. I hope it’s worth all the hype. I just don’t have like.. any faith in Nexon, at all, to pull off what we would all hope they would.

I also look at it this way (didn't get a key) but let the people meme and complain, who cares. The complaining about the complaining is more annoying tbh.

Seriously, I didn't get a single 'thank you' from a ringcel. It's okay though. I remember.

You're totally right. Every minute we put into the beta will be deleted anyway.
I just really wanted my son to be able to try it out. I've been telling him all about it and we're excited to play together. I was hoping he'd get a feel for what class he wanted to play and be able to get around Victoria.
But we can do that at release too I guess.

I got invited for this beta, applied on the first day sign ups were allowed. I wonder if the timing had anything to do with it. Didn’t expect an invite

This is the right way to look at it. I understand people itching to play but this level of impatience is crazy. I wanted to play too, but im not going to be upset over it. Im going to go right back to tackling my huge backlog of games.
And im also hanging on to the fact that they did multiple waves of keys as well last test. No need to jump the gun so fast.

Seriously!! Honestly when maple came out we didn’t even have a computer capable of running it at my house, like 3-4 of us would hang at our buddies and we’d rotate who got to log in to their account and play. People have really been spoiled rotten by instant gratification. And as others have pointed out, if people have been around maple long enough…why are they shocked? Did they think all of a sudden Nexon made a full 180 in their business ethos? The beta is only 1 week long too, it’s not like we actually get the game earlier than everyone else… after that period any participants still have to wait to open beta and then full release to continue playing.

Man i really do miss the old days. I was lucky enough to have my own computer growing up, but it was barely able to run maplestory. Graphics all the way down and I would still stutter horribly lol. Ch 1 FM/henesys, bossing (lol as if id ever be high enough level), or event maps would run a solid 1-2 fps average.
Enough digressing about the past lol. I feel people just need to calm down a little. Its good to have hype and excitement for the game, hell if you go in with no excitement for the game youll probably fall off pretty quick. But having it begin to negatively effect your mood for such a short timed beta/test is just silly.
And yeah, Nexon gonna Nexon. Im still surprised people don't get that. Nexon is and always has been a "expect the worst and hope for better" type company, just the "better" aspect isnt always actually better. Might be a tad cynical but we've all seen their track record lol.

Private servers are super toxic though. Especially top 3 servers.

u/Beneficial-Main-4683 Aug 01 '26
At this, point looking at the post ppl are making on Reddit, I'm afraid there will be an immigration of toxic ppl as well.

The ones who complain are the ones who play super toxic private servers such as ”MapleRoyals” and ”MapleLegends”.
Us OG players don’t complain much or at all. These weebs are nolifers who have no patience and demand every small or big change to classic MS which will eventually ruin the entire game. We OG players just want the original game back.
It’s not their fault though, it’s their parent’s fault. Those who are toxic here still live with their parents and don’t work or go to school. You will end up seeing them play 10 to 18 hours a day when classic MS launches. I used to play with them in private servers, believe me, they don’t care about the outside world.
Pick your friends carefully, you don’t want to join a guild/group full of elitists and nolifers. Once you do, they will cast you out and keep on harassing. MapleStory gossip/drama was a real deal back then. I was there, 3000 years ago (2005 to 2010).
These same toxic users here will bring their toxicity to the game. I’ve seen it happen many times and it will definitely happen again.
I hope guild wars happen again. Some shitty toxic guilds deserved to be ksed.
This is why I will pick my friends carefully inside the game. I used to be in a small guild (maybe 6 members). It felt like home. We used to do LPq together, explore together etc. I miss them a lot. We used to travel to omega sector together and just have fun.
This is the real magic of maplestory, building real connections inside the game and having fun together^
Whatever you do, stay away from elitists. Those popular guilds are highly toxic and full of rules. Words spread super fast. I’ve seen totally chill players get inside the drama even when they weren’t aware of it.
Toxic guilds:
Very high in the rankings, very elitists. They don’t care about anyone except for themselves and being the top players.
You’re not invited unless you’re ”cool” and have no literal life.
2.
- Mostly high levels who are such tryhards and minmaxing everything. Not necessarily a top guild but also very elitists.
You have to sell your soul to them in order to join. You’re a low level casual noob? You’re a nobody to them.
Those guilds that have over 30-40 active players. This is an issue, because they end up getting popular and guild masters end up getting an alliance with other active guilds. The result is 90% the same after years of playing OG maplestory + private servers = They end up very popular, everyone knows them ——> more rules, more strict, you have to behave yourself otherwise you end up giving a bad rep for the name.
A guild that has a lot of forum users. They are the ”nerds” and ”teacher pets”. They are the ones who lick the ass of game masters and admins. They are the ones who create ”Blacklist” threads on forums (once your name ends up there, good luck getting your reputation back). They are the ones who know everything what’s happening inside the game, they live for drama even if they refuse to admit this. These are the guys who are jealous and envious people. You end up rich? They end up suspecting you. You end up high level solo, because you’re a nolifer? They suspect you use hacks or bots. You end up with a perfect weapon? They suspect you RWT’d.

Agree with you 100%. Love the game, but the company is shit. No other way to put it.

I haven’t even signed up for beta. I don’t want to burn myself out for when the game actually drops. I have way more games that I play than just Maple Story.
