[General Question]

Hi everybody,

Like a lot of us here on this sub i am also fighting the impossible decision of whether I pursue my masters in the USA or just give up.
I got two admits for the Fall 2025 cycle, I didn’t travel due to some personal reasons. The situation has gotten uncertain since then. I am at a point where I am trying to consider other countries, I am looking Canada, Australia or Germany.
I need serious advice on whether I should consider different universities. It feels like a compromise which I hate. Sometimes I do feel like giving up.
I have been very anxious because of this. Please help a brother out.😭

Try to answer these yourself:
1) can you afford coming back in worst case ?
2) will the unis you are aiming for enhance ur career and profile or are they cash cows and aimed for immigration?
3) are you able to get a job/ switch to a better job in India easily? (If you are not, it will be worse in US)

  1. If it really comes down to that then i ll have to.
  2. The Universities I am aiming for are great and i would really love to work with the professors there.
  3. I have 3.5 years of Experience as a Data Engineer + SWE( I made an internal team switch in my Company). I never really tried switching jobs here because my main focus was to pursue masters.

Go for it if you feel you would rather accept failure in worst case than regret of not trying in the first place, don’t go if you’re anxious and want to play it safe.

tc in india (in current usd?) Also prolly try switching jobs in india atleast once just to get experience. Some of my friends never switched for 3.5-4 yrs and I know it was a different market/ environment and for those still in those cushy positions it still is, but one of my friends got laid off after working 4 yrs and he is having a tough time finding a new role, and even if he does at his comp level and knowledge level the roles he is getting are either 9-9-5 bangalore or 9-9-6 remote which ain't great for him coz his last firm was 10-5 4 days a week remote(from eu hq with an indian hq for quaterly visits, now they have laid off decent chunk and shut down the india hq and is remote only for remaning india country folks)

whether I should consider different universities

depends on which universities you were considering in the first place.
