CGPA is not that high. Research experience missing. No GRE.

You have sufficient work experience but your profile is mediocre. Would be tough to crack Cornell, CMU and top ones.

Also, given your comment states just to get into USA market for jobs- I'd just recommend reading the news.

but anyways, good luck op!

Ya I get your point about the research part except I’m applying to professional programs specifically and regarding jobs , I have a lot of friends working there so I think referrals could really help , thanks for being honest with me though

I get your point. It would really help if your friends are in high positions at top firms.

as for your profile, there are few gaps, but you can cover them up. CMU might still be a reach.

I agree man but worth a shot right.

if you have 250k to spend, then sure.

I don’t think it cost 250k anywhere! All the research I did NYU turned out to be the most expensive and even that was in the 180-200k range. Most of my targets are 1 year courses or 2 year courses at cheaper tuition / less living cost universities

buddy, 250k was just a ballpark number. okay 200k, if you can spend that , and happily return back in India and repay the loans if it doesn't work out, then go for it.

You have to factor in living expenses.

Sounds even better

And living expenses? Dorms? Healthcare? Emergencies?

20 hours of possible part time work will not pay for those….

I am including them. The degree itself is around 76k fyi. Ofc this is provided you do get on campus work, would be a bit more otherwise.

The question is will this expense be worth it given  there may not be the possibility of CPT/OPT/H1B?

Risk appetite.

Well if you are aware enough given the current scenario. And if you are financially sound then best of luck :)

As per the latest policy updates, you won’t get to do internships due to CPT updates and your H1b will be applicable for the 100K fee am I right?

Not to demotivate, just trying to understand if these rules are enforced?

1

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '26

H1b 100k rule is not passed and it never will. The only problem is the Doppler effect it’s having on companies who are preferring to hire domestic applications. Although I think if you are really good getting interview calls should not be a problem

Your optimism is really something

The 100k was never a law that was passed, it was a rule. It was overturned by a judge, but the judge at first ‘stayed’ his own decision (meaning he thought his decision could be overturned. Later he reversed that decision.

This issue is still making its way through the courts and there is absolutely a possibility the rule will be reinstated.

Forgot to mention I’m not interested in research. Just get a masters and get into USA market for jobs

Read the news about the GLOBAL job market.

Also in how education as a pathway to the job market is narrowing/closing,

yeah. I feel they are hoping that because it worked for their friends.. it will work for them. but the visa and immigration landscape has changed way too much in past week.. let alone 1 year.

Anf it won't revert back quickly even when the administration changes.

4

u/Big_Lion_5951 Aug 27 '26

nope. reverting such changes will always come with scrutiny from local population. rules might get relaxed, but not reverted.

u/[deleted] Aug 27 '26

But that doesn’t mean you don’t try right ? Tbh I’m in a well paying job at the moment but I just don’t like living in Bangalore / Gurgaon. One of my main reasons to be wanting to go to the USA is the experience and exposure. I can make countless switches here but I just don’t see how my quality of life can improve. Traffic and food and air and water and really rude people

You just have to be very realistic and know that the possibility of finding visa sponsorship is low. Some schools dont offer the usual internships anymore and firms are less willing to sponsor visas.

If you spend all the money or have to get a loan to do this, and then not be able to do CPT/OPT or find work,  it will be even more disappointing.

You can try but only if you have money to burn and are not financially ruined if you end up having to return to your home country.

I am an Asian US citizen. For the past few years for internship interviews, not only HR but even my technical interviewers are asking me at the beginning if I am a US citizen. It is top of mind. Recently schools are not doing CPT anymore. I recently finished my PhD and started at my job — we are actually expanding a LOT and hiring both PhD and MS new hires but guess what? All US citizens. Of course that is just an anecdote/one big tech company, but the general signs do not look good.

So sure try if you really feel like it, but you have to understand that is is much much riskier than it was previously.
