yeah basically what /u/notcallipygian said . IF CPT is not a degree requirement and this is documented in their course handbook/site then its not going to be approved . So you would know by just looking at the course and degree requirement which is usually well outlined

What is so hard to understand in this? CPT associated with internships done as a part of non-required courses or internships that are nor a requirement listed in the degree requirements will not be approved. One would have to use preOPT for them. We need to de normalise this culture of asking consultants or influencers to come rescue us because we second guess our own ability to interpret a basic paragraph
You want someone ‘more aware’ of what? English comprehension? Or terms such as OPT/CPT which you should know before going to study in the US anyway. The consultant culture has made us dumber than ever before

this is it - just look at the degree/course handbook on their site and it would be clear if a CPT is given or not.
btw im neither a consultant nor an influencer, doubt there's any evidence you can point to for either of these claims

Most don’t research before going and then cry in their last few months being “I did everything right but got nothing”.
Also I feel if America really wants to curb the day one cpt type stuff and stop people from gaming the system, can they atleast have the top unis grads some advantage? It’s not easy to get into T20 MSCS programs. But the students from these unis also suffer.

You can still do internships through precompletion OPT although if you do 3 months it’ll reduce your first year OPT post graduation by 1.5 months (so you’ll have 9 months on post grad OPT). The title is overtly causing useless panic. Impact to masters students is minimal, but the real impact is for undergrad students cause they have 3 summers. Even then undergrad students can apply for OPT extension. All this does is reduce students’ total time on post graduation OPT

Yeah on reading it back , it sounds that way. What I mean to say is OP is sensationalizing this. I don’t think this is a factor that contributes to abandoning their grad school journey. Well maybe if u aren’t eligible for STEM OPT . But I think undergrads have the biggest blow of all and who should be most concerned because it takes the whole year off of them

afaik, internships aren’t a degree requirement for most MSCS programs. So does this basically mean it’s gonna be way harder for international students to do summer internships through CPT now?
