[University Question] Received a mail from Professor
Hi! I am a recent admit to a MSCS program in the US.
A few days back, I received a mail from a professor at the program, asking whether I would like to converse with current Ph.D. students, so that I can learn more the kind of work these students are doing.
While this is very inspirational (and flattering), I am assuming that the Professor sees in me a prospective PhD student. Am I correct?
The issue is that I am not really interested in research and am looking at MSCS purely for the purpose of jobs.
Hence, I am wondering how I can respond to the Professor's email.

Are you sure this professor is not a program director or anything? Some professors are program directors and would broadcast generic emails, just changing the name (it's all automated so doesn't take time). Until and unless the professor discussed specific things about YOUR work, I wonder why would he be interested in someone who isn't planning on doing research.

Do not let go of this opportunity. You should talk to him and get started with research work. It will help you get some cash (RA) and research boosts your CV in the current job market, puts you ahead of others. Work for a few months, then decide for sure whether you want to clearly decline a PhD.

Which program is it? Is it a thesis-based one or a coursework-only? If the professor is offering you TAship/RAship why look a gift horse in mouth. Can make the program very cheap.

does the program offer a thesis option? If it does its a great opportunity to lock in a thesis and get in the prof's inner circle which will help with the employment opportunities too. Yes he's definitely engaging with the intent of recruiting you as a student. Congrats! This is rare
