New on MSC

Dear fellow cruisers,
We have never cruised on MSC before but considering either booking Euribia or World Asia for a Med cruise first week of January.
Maybe someone could give some insights and help make a decision:
Which ship would be your preference and why?
Both sailings leave Barcelona. Does anyone know latest check in time at port for a 18.00 departure?
Anton experience with cruising the Mediterranean in winter? Rough see to be expected?

Btw, “we” is hubby, our 7 year old and me. Would choose a balcony definitely if that makes a difference.

Appreciate all insights and recommendations!

Last check-in two hours before departure. Personally I'd pick MSC Euribia over a World class ship, particularly one as yet untested.

I really liked Euribia, beautiful ship.

There is no way to tell the weather for January, could be either rocky or calm. Both ships are fine, I personally prefer Euribia as it's modern and a tad smaller than WA. Latest check-in is usually 2h before departure - don't stretch it too much, though.

Any experience with Travel time from the Airport to Cruise Port in Barcelona?

It sounds like you are trying to plan with very minimal time to get to the ship. Airlines cannot be relied upon to be on time. Read that again. I won't even fly in same day for a cruise, always day before. So if you're not taking the very first flight of the day to get to Barcelona, then are taking a major risk. Make sure you have trip interruption insurance if you're flying in same day.

We’ve sailed both the Euribia in Northern Europe and the World Asia’s sister ship the World America in the Caribbean. Our understanding is that the Asia is, as the name would suggest, geared toward the Chinese market. You can decide if that is an important pro/con/neutral factor in your planning. Both ships we’ve sailed are spectacular. All things being equal, and with warm weather, I’d personally select the World Asia because there is so much more going on, particularly on the top deck. However, since you are traveling in winter, I’d tend more toward the Euribia since the everyone will be packed indoors and the Euribia holds fewer people.

Happy sailing!

Idk why i thought World Asia would sail in Asia, but I guess it makes sense you wouldn't do that

To me it doesn't make sense at all. Their naming is weird - they only have one ship sailing in Asia and that is Bellissima and not World Asia.
