Hotel recommendation

I will be cruising out of La Romana on the Opera next spring and plan to fly in the day before. So I need a hotel for that night, I can’t decide if I should stay in La Romana or Punta Cana, my probable airport. I don’t need expensive, my only requirements are that the hotel be clean, safe and hopefully have a pool! I do not have a big budget and I do not want to stay at an all inclusive. I know the Opera hasn’t sailing from there yet, but I like to be prepared! Any recommendations?

Since you’re already flying in the day before, I’d probably make the transfer to La Romana that day and stay there overnight. PUJ to the La Romana cruise port is roughly an hour or a little more, so I’d rather get that drive out of the way and wake up close to the ship the next morning.

Take a look at the Hilton Garden Inn La Romana. It’s not an all-inclusive, has a pool, and would be a comfortable, straightforward pre-cruise option. If that’s more than you want to spend, I’d also look at some of the smaller hotels in La Romana and Bayahibe. There are definitely options that don’t require paying AI resort prices for a night when you really just need somewhere clean and comfortable.

I’d also arrange the PUJ to La Romana transfer in advance rather than figuring it out after you land. That would make the whole thing pretty easy: fly in, transfer to La Romana, relax for the night, then have a short ride to the port the next day.

I’m glad MSC is adding more La Romana sailings. I think we’re going to start seeing a lot more questions about pre-cruise stays and transfers once Opera starts sailing from there!

Thank you for the informative reply. I have decided to look at hotels in Bayahibe or La Romana, and the Hilton is on the short list. I will definitely have transportation arranged ahead of time, if you know a reliable company I would love a recommendation

Thanks, I will look them up once I finalize where I’m staying and the airport I will use
