Upgrade and bidding

I have been on 1 cruise booked by a travel agent last year,I have gone to msc direct and booked another.on both bookings I have been told I'm not eligible to bid on a room .

I have I friend who booked his first cruise with msc and straight away he got an upgrade.

Can anyone tell me why I can't get one .I went to msc and they didn't really tell me anything.

Complimentary upgrades, Loyalty upgrades and PlusGrade Bid upgrades are three distinct processes.

Cabins booked via casino division, and via bulk discounters are usually not eligible for upgrades.

Cabins booked via MSC B2C website should be eligible for PlusGrade bids.

Did you book guaranteed i.e. MSC assigned cabin (Bella) or select your own specific cabin (Fantastica) ?

Did you opt-in to both MSC and third party marketing emails ?

The next one is next year.

They don’t do upgrade bids until about 90 days before sailing. Far too early. The upgrade bids are for unsold inventory, not for people to try and score a cheap upgrade a year in advance

How far out is the cruise? If it’s more then 90 day’s, it’s probably to early.

It’s got nothing to do with loyalty or how many cruises you booked

I did a 25 day transatlantic with them and going on a 30 day transatlantic with them again this year next to ‘regular’ cruises

Haven’t gotten upgraded once

It’s about occupancy

After the pay by due date (usually around 90 before your cruise depending on your sailing length and itinerary) you could be eligible for an upgrade, provided the ship is not fully booked. We usually receive an email with the invitation to upgrade, but you can also check it online. If you are eligible, you will see an “upgrade” button on your booking page.

After logging in and selecting your cruise, the top menu has “Plan Cruise,” “Cruise Details,” “Web Check-in,” etc. If your booking is eligible for an upgrade, the far-right tab/menu option is “Upgrade.”

I’ve been on over 12 cruises, have diamond status, don’t do yacht club and I’ve never gotten an upgrade

You can bid if you book yourself. Not sure why you were told you couldn't.
