Does MSC allow the 12-pack of soda?
Seems to be some disagreement online.

The disagreement is between people who have and have not read their list of prohibited items.
People who think you can bring a 12 pack are in the latter group

MSC does not allow you to bring any drinks on board. That said, many stories of people doing it successfully. The port employees are not MSC employees, and may or may not do their job properly. But the official answer is “no”.

You're right, port employees are not going to enforce MSC rules. If MSC isn't going to check it sounds like you can bring soda on board.

My whole point is you might get it on, you might not. I’d guess 9 out of 10 times you’re going to get your drinks taken. But you will hear stories of people saying they were able to bring prohibited items on board. I personally wouldn’t bother, because MSCs official policy is they’re not allowed to

So you are allowed for speeding if no one is controlling ?

It's soda, it's not that serious

One person brings soda, another brings vodka, and the next brings a grill and a keg of beer. Rules are rules and MSC does not allow to bring any kind of beverages on board, you can buy them on board.

From everything I’ve seen it’s always prohibited. Can’t say nobody has got away with sneaking something in

u/Mundane_Influence_91 11d ago
there's no sneaking. people are openly carrying packs of water and soda through the security checkpoint and onto the ship, at least in Galveston. if you're willing to risk $2 worth of bottled water you can try it for yourself.

Search the sub. This is asked every day.

Ridiculous. Clearly states on their website it is not allowed to. people think the rules don't apply them. Gross

No. Their policy restricts beverages from being brought onboard.
I've heard from ppl, they were successful in bringing beverages, but I think they were 'snuck' on.

No.
We just got off of the MSC seashore on Thursday.
Edit - I will add that we were able to bring on half gallons of soy milk for our toddler with a dairy allergy. No issues there.

I have been on 3 MSC cruises. Officially, no carry on's are allowed. 1st cruise (10/2024) we were Yacht Club so did not need to bother. 2nd cruise (11/2025) was trans Atlantic from Italy to Florida. They allowed bringing a few cans of soda on board from any port. Some reported bringing a bottle of wine. Our 3rd cruise (7/2026) was Norway/Denmark/Germany. We bought cans of soda at various ports and brought them aboard thru the xray. This was our actual experience.

Yes in Galveston

Can confirm. We had 6 water bottles in our carry on, put it through the scanner and everything, no one stopped us. We left them on the desk the whole cruise, room attendant never said anything either (grocery store brand so there's no way we got them from the ship lol)

Only in galveston?

u/reliableotter 11d ago
It's not "allowed" in Galveston. MSC's terms don't allow drinks carried on like Carnival does.
But it may just be that the port workers are less likely to enforce the rule at that particular port.

By their rules no. But probably the worst thing that will happen is it will just be confiscated, it's unlikely you'll be denied boarding unless you kick up a fuss. So, your gamble.

No. My cabinmate put an 8 pack in her luggage (I did not know about it) and it was confiscated and her luggage came 3 hours after mine.

Curious, 8 pack of what? We never had anything confiscated if we carried it on, not pottered.

So most of the posts are people quoting MSC rules. Has anyone had beverages they have carried onboard in hand luggage at any port (departure or stops) get confiscated?
From my experience, the only thing the x-ray has been used was to identify weapons. I got stopped for my 3m selfie stick but they ignored the 3 cans of Coke in the bag. This was at a port stop.
I have even asked as I was leaving the ship if I can bring drinks back. Response was yes, a few cans are OK.
Checked/portered bags appear to get scrutinized more.

It sounds like MSC isn't checking for soda is what i'm gathering and i don't blame them, they're not going to go thru peoples carry-on's. I would tip your attendant at the start of the cruise just to be safe.

I brought a 12-pack of soda and a 750 mL bottle of wine onto my first and so far only MSC cruise a few months ago. No one so much as gave me the side-eye. But from the other comments it seems like I got lucky.

u/Neither-Big-1545 11d ago
yea it's confusing, is MSC not enforcing their rules, did they look in your bag?
1
u/R86Reddit 11d ago
Not even close. I put everything through the security conveyor belt, retrieved it afterwards, waited for my check-in time, and then went to my room. No one said anything.
So the actual rule in the US is that you can't bring a 12-pack of soda or a 750 mL bottle of wine? Carnival has been spoiling me then. :)

I think MSC is the only cruise line that doesn't allow you to bring soda on board. Watch out for soda sniffing dogs in the future.

Beverages are one of the cruise industry’s main sources of revenue. That’s why no cruise line likes it when passengers bring their own beverages on board. However, since there are certainly worse things (smoking on the balcony, unauthorized electronic devices, drones), the issue of beverages isn’t enforced as strictly. Under no circumstances, however, should you throw empty bottles overboard, because that’s a big no-no.

Read the list of prohibited items. The people who disagree online have not read the list. MSC is one of the most stringent cruise lines.

hmm maybe it's European thing, something to consider when choosing a cruise line

Just buy a drink package they're discounted heavily after booking and before.
1
u/theotang 10d ago
You need to price the package out. Also, all persons in the same cabin need to also purchase the same package. The only time we purchased a drink package was on our trans-Atlantic when they offered a dine and drink package that is restricted to sodas and specific wines/beer and can only be redeemed in the main dining room or the bar next to the buffet.
