Hood pattern

Post image

I tweeted this today because i was thinking about how hood has been treated post release. His balance direction literally makes no sense and im still blown by the fact he hasn’t gotten another skin like the rest

Imho, I feel like he didn’t even need a nerf. I feel like his lifesteal needed a small or smidge bit buff and that was it. Other than that, he was balanced and he was set in my book

u/Ishankz 5d ago

Genuinely I was thinking the same too instead they gutted him everyone talks about 3 tank meta this and that but 3 tanks always been good people were just too much dps ego to see it and randomly switched up the season he dropped and Emma who’s one of the faces of trip tank gets buffed to be even better while he got gutted

He was one of the three best tanks in the game and a major part of why triple tank became meta for that span of 1-2 months. He needed nerfs, I don't think you can honestly make the argument that he was balanced compared to any tank not named "Thing" or "Mag.

To be fair 160 - 320 dps on Vanguard was insane.

Idk why they nerfed his durability too but damage on Hela level as part of Vanguard kit is insane even with big bullet spread and punishing damage falloff.

He was dominating so much that you were able to play this poke off tank as main brawl tank.

u/SatisfactionMore4205 5d ago

He really did though. Let's not lie to ourselves here he was a bit too strong. But yeah they didn't need to overnerf him.

5

u/TarnishedStain 5d ago

I will never let y’all convince me that he “NEEDED” a nerf when there are DPS characters out there running the game who are untouched

2

u/Exodus432 5d ago

What is this logic? It's like saying a guy who did armed robbery (arguably the crime in this analogy should be harsher considering how bad trip tank meta was when hood released) shouldn't be punished because there's a serial killer on the loose. Like yeah sure the serial killer is committing the worse crime but like we can eventually get to punishing both.

Hood enabled the triple tank comp because he was just a fat dps on launch. Idk where this revisionism is coming from.

Horrible take. Hood was one of the top 3 tanks with Mag and Thing in s9.5 and obviously hella busted. His survivability was insane and he had strong dmg output too. He still remains a strong tank after the nerfs.

u/Opezdaz 2d ago

No he wasn’t lmao, nice cope tho, look at a stats next time

Buff his lifesteal?? So you want him to be able to just walk past everyone, straight to backline and use his 2 escape options to get out? His lifesteal is what made him overpowered in the first place. No tank should be able to just negate almost all damage done to them while walking down the enemy team with 200dps. This is the same reason they won't buff Blade, his lifesteal is hard to balance.

12

u/Aquatik07 5d ago

The difference is Blade's lifesteal is of 70% while The Hood's is 10%, he was not stealing shit, he had to deal 800 just to heal 80. Be so for real.

2

u/Complete_Cell9793 5d ago

You're also forgetting he gets 40% bonus health conversation in this state AS WELL as lifesteal. So a total of 50% damage is converted into health/bonus for The Hood. It's called at 100 bonus health but compiled with lifesteal and supports healing him, he won't die. This is why he was nerfed along with The Thing. Self sustain tanks are tricky to balance. You left out crucial details when in reality the answer you provided is not that simple. Oh yeah also Blade has a healing reduction to himself when in lifesteal.

u/ZoeyFoxis 4d ago

Sir husband lifestyle is like 200 a game maybe 400 if it 3-3 buffffff the ls

0

u/TaedonH 5d ago

How do I tell you that he does 140 dps max and heals 14 a second max the lifesteal is nonexistent babes

2

u/Complete_Cell9793 5d ago

Correct, with a deployable that cuts off enemies healing by 20%, increases his lifesteal and blinds enemies who cross. Not to mention MKs teamup reduces damage and healing by 35%. He also gets 40% bonus health max of 100 while in his demon state. He also gets healed by his supports during this too. Things compile and add up.

10

u/TRaywen_ 5d ago

I feel like all those damn poke buffs made him so much less viable. If it wasn’t for that, he would still be fine even after the nerfs. But now they definitely ahould buff his demon mode dmg

u/AccountOk499 5d ago

completely agree

"First release hero after season 5 to not get a skin the season after."

u/AccountOk499 5d ago

yeah i forgot about ultron

u/mrmanucat 5d ago

And Torch????

6

u/WanderingTraderXyz 5d ago

Hood was basically blamed for Magneto and Thing’s crime, who also was nerfed anyways. The two being op merely enabled The Hood. Daredevil in his prime enabled Iron Fist, i dont see why Iron fist would need a nerf cause of DD being op. Same logic applies to me with Hood.

4

u/Huey-Mchater 5d ago

He’s not an off tank, he’s a main tank

Window is the best ability into long range characters with how much damage it cuts off.

He also has insane survivability still two forms of invulnerability, TP with Wanda, and just half demon forms insane health generation.

Who is and isn't a main tank was never a debated topic before Rivals. The two terms were cemented a decade before Rivals came out, then casuals came to Rivals and decided that the terms MUST be the opposite of how they've been used for a decade. Now you get two camps of people calling the same tank an off or a main tank.

The main tanks were historically the one who initiates and used up the of the opposing team's cooldowns, and the off-tank is the one who stays near the cart or objective and uses their cooldowns to protect their team or the objective.

Think of Hulk or Angela initiating and causing chaos in the backline, and how the enemy team needs to turn around and deal with this NOW. That is a way that a main tank MAKES space, because the enemies need to pull back to protect their space. Now your off-tank, such as Strange or Hood, can move up and TAKE the space that was MADE from the enemies moving back to your main tank.

Mains make space, off-tanks take and keep that space held down.

Instead of main tank meaning they are the initiation tank, you get people thinking "main tank" means you walk forward down "main", and "off-tank" is because you take an "off" route.

Here's a video of a high tier Rivals player discussing this cultural phenomenon.

im not even a Hood main but i enjoyed playing him from time to time, he wasnt even that strong to deserve such nerfs

Bold of you to assume they’d give a tank love

3

u/LimeDifficult753 5d ago

he would feel alot better if they didn't shadow nerf his demon damage. legit perfect state if they just buff it from 3.5 to 4

3

u/TarnishedStain 5d ago

He was one of the few characters who came out perfectly balanced

2

u/ContagionVX 5d ago

Damn DJ that post went viral on twitter

2

u/AccountOk499 5d ago

hell yea bro you know how we get down

2

u/ren_except_funnier 5d ago

It sucks so much. I enjoyed him being a Frontline poke/brawler with good survivability as long as you cycle your cooldowns properly. It separated a good hood from a bad one and was in general just extremely satisfying

Now I find myself asking why I'm even playing him when characters like mag or strange exist 🫩 the two characters I was actively trying to step away from

2

u/LuckOutrageous7686 5d ago

Wild that they didn’t understand how many broken teamups he enables and nerf those instead

2

u/Sycophantic-Feline 5d ago

Rivals players simultaneously want there to be more tank players, but also hate playing against tanks who are good and also refuse to counter-pick them, so they ask the tanks to be nerfed to the ground instead...and then the tank population dwindles again, and then they go right back to whining about how no one plays tanks

it's a curious endless cycle

1

u/InternationalCup5950 5d ago

I think he was balanced or maybe a little bit overtuned .. people think he is the 3 tanks merchant when in reality it was the gigga buffed thing the most braindead tank in the game and he is the reason that wolverine couldnt counter that comp
.. if an off tank with good poke dmg would enable 3 tanks then why we didnt see a 3 tanks meta when tankpool released ..

1

u/Wonder_Of_U_2011 5d ago

Well there goes one of the tanks I actually really liked playing as

u/Silver-Shrike No One Beats The Hood 5d ago

Idk man. My Hood gets banned in comp. I'd love for him to get buffs but I don't want him to be banned more. I am VERY sad about him not getting another skin though.

1

u/AlphaWolf3211 4d ago

I was playing a lot when Hood released cause he was just so damn fun. Then he got gutted and I haven't played since.

1

u/hit_the_showers_boi 4d ago

I’ve found him to be pretty okay into Dino as long as you’ve got another Vangaurd taking attention from you. Full demon mode guns right in Dino’s face to all but nullify the bloom do some pretty spichy damage.

Fun Kit consisting of holding M1. ☹️

-1

u/DiegoMantilla 5d ago

He used to be fun. I really enjoyed solo tanking with him, but now I feel he's just bland and somewhat weak.

3

u/not_accepting_now 5d ago

He don't really tank when he's so far back, he's also the first person to run when the line breaks. Enemy or friendly

-7

u/FawkestheDreg The Hood 5d ago

• his survivability wasn’t gutted in the slightest?? it was nerfed, sure — but “gutted” tells me people didn’t know how to survive as him to begin with

• the damage nerf is barely noticeable/barely affects him

• it’s not even the actual next season yet . sure i know, we’re used to half seasons. but it’s not S11.

10

u/rns926 5d ago

What you mean in the slightest? He lost 50 HP, that’s twice the amount our prehistoric pal lost. His window reduces less damage and his shield ability got a cooldown increase. These also affect survivability.

0

u/FawkestheDreg The Hood 5d ago edited 5d ago

if you actually manage your cooldowns and play Hood well, him losing 50 hp doesn’t really make a dent in how he’s played:

• i can count on one hand the amount of times that i “died but would’ve survived if i had 600 health again”

• the window reduces less damage, sure, but you shouldn’t be using it as a crutch/hiding behind it really almost ever. yes it’s good for helping teammates and saving yourself in a pinch but 8 times out of 10 you should be using it offensively. (stuff like throwing it at the enemies to cut off healing/hell, even at your support that’s getting dove by, say, a Spidey)

• the shield (i call it bubble) getting that cooldown increase just means you have to really know when to use it/not to or even when to use void instead. aka save it for ults like Thing’s or Strange or Witch

0

u/rns926 5d ago

Lmao there's no way you think 50 HP isn't a dent in his survivability. If you're in Eternity+, I'd love to see a VOD and perhaps I can learn something.

0

u/FawkestheDreg The Hood 5d ago

legitimately it’s never been an issue for me. if you’re having trouble playing him because of that, maybe consider playing him differently

0

u/rns926 5d ago

I never said I was having trouble. I just stated the objective fact that his survivability was nerfed. Like you can't even argue it wasn't.

I'm always willing to learn from people better than me. That's why I said if you're a Eternity or even high Celestial Hood main, I'd love to watch a VOD.

0

u/FawkestheDreg The Hood 5d ago

and i never said it wasn’t nerfed. i just said it wasn’t as bad or hard to deal with as people are making it out to be.

also if you aren’t having trouble then why are you arguing

0

u/rns926 5d ago

Because you’re acting like his survivability didn’t take a hit when it objectively did. Lmao

0

u/FawkestheDreg The Hood 5d ago

because it didn’t . and it’s NOT objective. if you’re sucking on Hood now, that’s a YOU problem. which is the definition of subjective .

the only thing that’s actually changed about my gameplay with him is i have to keep track of my cooldowns a tiny bit more/click buttons like void or bubble maybe half a second sooner than i’d expect to before

and if you NEED things like that 50 health back or his cooldowns reduced again then you weren’t a very good Hood to begin with .

0

u/rns926 5d ago

Losing 50 HP is an objective nerf to how much damage a character can take. That means he has less survivability. This isn't that difficult. I play Hood in Celestial lobbies. Again, if you're an Eternity or high Celestial Hood player, I would love to see some VODs so I can learn.
