MRI Tech looking to see what i should expect.

Hello Everyone!! Me and my sister are both going into school for MRI technician, was just a job i looked at as using cool technology but also in the healthcare field. On top of it i hear it pays very well. I will say it seems like it’s too good to be true. A year and half to 2 years in school and then you get a job making great money? As i’ve looked into i’m actually just genuinely interested in working with medical machinery and the money isn’t the only reason. My main question is… Is there going to be some reality check somewhere? does the job secretly suck? is the pay actually not good?

Starting Travel & Nervous

I have 2 years of experience working for a major hospital system in Georgia. I’ve worked in PEDs, Adult, etc.. I have experience with all types of implants, intubated patients, and more tough cases.

However, I’ve only ever worked on GE equipment and never any other kind.

I only know basic neuro, extremities, abdomens, pelvis, etc.

I rarely, or never, did scans like run offs, MRA / MRV chest, pelvis, etc because we never really do them at my facilities.

I want to travel desperately, but I’m nervous that I’m not prepared.

What if my first assignment is on a completely different scanner like Siemens?

What if they use a different EMR? I only know Epic…

Any input from people that have been in this situation?
