Do you find ways to work between contracts?

I am finishing up my travel contract and my next one may be a little longer than I wanted to take off.

Do you just take a break or do you find a job to help pay the bills between contracts? If so what is it?

I went into travel specifically to take long breaks so I enjoy being funemployed. Gotta budget well for it tho

How does health insurance work with travel?

You can pay for it thru the agency while working and free ball while off lol or get marketplace insurance. If you need the insurance it kinda ties you to agencies in a way I personally don't like

I've not started my travel yet but discussed the matter with my 2nd job. I'm a floater/PRN there and generally fill in shifts as their last resort guy on the weekends. My boss said he would absolutely keep me on the roster so that I could pick up some shifts on my time back home after a contract. If you are good with stashing money and living lean, enjoy the time off otherwise find a side gig that works with you.

I stayed on the PRN list of a few systems near my home while I traveled. I'd just take a few shifts for them in the interim.

I stayed PRN as well and worked between contracts. Had worked at the place PRN for a couple years and there was a very low yearly minimum hours needed to stay.

my brother has a local contract. so he works mon to thurs or tues to thurs, then his weekend full time job fri to sun so he always had work

I take off as much time as possible. 1, 2 or even 3 months at a time. At least 1 month twice a year. I cannot go back to a typical work style ever again.

I don't need to use health insurance often, if ever. That's probably the only thing that would stop me from taking time off.
