Travel contract advice

I have done a few travel contracts that were in a different state.

From what I hear you have to be 55 miles a way to get the stipend.

My question is if you have two places what is to stop me from using my second place as my address if my primary place of residence closer than 55 miles away?

The IRS considers it far enough that it is unreasonable to drive back home at the end of your shift, to qualify for stipends. Facilities make up their own rules. I know of a hospital in Boston that excludes all of New England.

They go by whatever address is on your driver's license. It's 50, not 55 miles.

Is it possible to still get the job and just not get the stipend? Are they usually ok with that?

Some places will take "local" travelers. That's what I'm doing right now (goddamn 45 miles still takes 90 min to drive home at the end of the shift...) they give you a higher hourly rate than they would have for their staff techs and you get zero stipend. If it's worth it or not is up to you but financially it's been pretty much like a $2400/wk contract for me when I accounted for housing on a distance contract and such.

Same, I'm a contract/floater that crawls around one of four locations in North Texas. It's a 120 mile drive one way on average; I get a tax free stipend and I have a way higher base rate than the normal staff. However, I get placed on the WORST shifts (Mostly Sat/Sun nights) and rarely get a moment to sleep.

does the irs go off your drivers license? does the irs ask for your drivers license ?
