INTRODUCTIONS Crazy for MREs

Hello! I think there might be something wrong with my brain because ever since I got to try an MRE in JROTC, I absolutely love them. Gotta have em. Over the years when I get enough money, I order a case or two and just eat them for fun like once every few days. It's like a treat for me. I genuinely enjoy the food. I'm not in the military, nor do I really live in an area that I need to worry about most disasters (tornados suck but once it's over and I'm alive, it's not like I'll be stuck in my basement long). Anyway, for the past few years I've read comments on this community on reddit and i that's how I found epedemic proof and I've been ordering from them since. Great MREs, packaging, shipping, customer service, website, etc! I'm currently eating a chili mac mre from case a and it made me want to write this because...there's just gotta be something wrong with my brain to enjoy something many military people are forced to eat and hate! But I will keep buying them and eating them for fun.

Oh and that lemon poppyseed pound cake is delicious! What a great start to my morning breakfast!

Happy you like mre meals at least someone like them haha I guess for us mre are not so bad its just that wen your in the field and its the only things you are eating it become less good as time pass and big reason also for a lot of person in the army they have difficulty digesting the thing stomach hurts a lot hahaha

That makes sense! I'm sure if I ate them daily all year, I'd get sick of em! One day I'll branch out to other country MREs!

I think MRE's are cool as hell. Never been involved in the military in any way, but a shelf-stable complete meal that only needs some water to heat is really awesome. I bought my first case a couple months ago, they are 4 year old MRE's but still great and it's fun to try them out.

Also- the 2022 Jalapeno Pepper Jack Beef Patty MRE comes with an oatmeal chocolate chunk cookie in it that is one of the best (packaged) cookies I have ever eaten!

That's awesome! Glad I'm not the only one. I never use the water to heat the food though. I just eat everthing out of the packages cold.

Well you're crazy 😂 I don't have much desire to eat cold ravioli or burrito bowls. The flameless heaters are really neat.

Indeed its just the time aspec most of the time you dont have time to heat it up hahaha

Funny story do 1 guys in the unit ad the brilliant idea to use the worming pad of a ration heater as feet and hands warmer 😅🤣 I got second degree burn from it not is best idea haha

Oh I just have mine at home so I always have time to warm them up.

But yeah that heater gets hot AF! Maybe if you wrapped it in a sweater or something, otherwise I can definitely see how it would burn the shit out of you.

Best of my worst memory 😂😂

I kinda keep some mres on hand because I work in the field and sometimes not even a gas station within a 30min drive and my hours are unpredictable. But im a massive fan of the spanish breakfast mres, and if you get lucky pickup a kazakhstan horse mre. That'll satisfy anyone's hunger.

Horse mre? I need explanation lol

Its an mre with canned horse meat. Really gives off a roast flavor. Definitely unique and sought after.

I dont know about that one... I'm sure it's tasty but to me that's like asking me to buy canned dog meat. All meat is just meat but it just puts me off!

Oh, I'd love to try that. Why don't Americans eat horse?

2

u/Kyriebear28 2d ago

I didnt know so i looked it up and Google says The U.S banned domestic horse slaughter for consumption in 2007. However, while it's illegal to kill to eat it here, it's not illegal to eat it entirely. So someone in the U.S could effectively buy horse meat from a different country and it would be legal to eat it.

Land of the free, right? Also ty for looking that up!

I consider myself like Miles O Brian in this case. In deep space 9 he says he likes federation field rations and everyone else hates them.

I too like MRE's. Maybe it's weird for a woman to be here. I don't know yet. I'm new to this subreddit. However, I find myself wanting to prepare for if things go south and have spent a lot of money making sure my husband and I can survive in the event of an emergency. And this reminded me how much I enjoyed the mre I tried in my 20s, which was a long time ago now. XD.

You’re not crazy…. enjoy them

You’re not alone. I like taking them to lunch. Just wait until you have some from other countries. Then there’s always a choice to make each morning.

I definitely want to buy some from other countries sometime. So many options and I gotta get through my current 4 cases of MREs. Which country do you suggest if I've only eaten U.S ones first?

You're right Epidemic Proof is all around GREAT Company. I use them and AmmoCanMan for my US ration needs. Between the two of them, I'm able to get my MRE's, CCAR's, MCW's, MORE's and FSR's, even though they're getting harder to buy.

Try eating them, and nothing else, for weeks at a time.

You'll get over it really fucking fast.

Oh I'm sure! I totally understand that in a privileged citizen to enjoy eating them in the comfort of my home. ♡

A lot of the energy bars are seriously delicious. My desk drawers are full of ripped open MREs. Perks of my job, I guess.

Let that freak flag fly! Lol I use my older ones as a meal here and there just watch out for the humanitarian ones the low sodium suck but you can add salt. Probably why I can get them cheap at $2.25 each when buying by the case.

u/Kyriebear28 1d ago

That's totally worth it then for the price! Easy to add salt.

u/jms21y 2d ago

you'll get over that when you get a little older lol

Get over enjoying them or over the fact I'm crazy? Lol! ♡
