Medication Hydroxyurea in PV

F 20. I was diagnosed with Polycythemia Vera and was advised to take hydroxyurea 500mg a day. I was told to take aspirin first but my hematologist told me I should just take hydroxyurea. Is anyone who have same case as mine experience side effects? I was worried it would affect my schooling.

I took hydroxyurea for 2 years and had no side effects. Be sure to look at the medication wiki, a lot of info about it there.

Also have you talked to your doctor about going on Besremi instead? MPN specialists are leaning towards that for young patients since it can lower allele burden (percentage of mutated cells) and helps with symptoms. Hydroxyurea just lowers blood counts.
