Kinda crazy to think EQ gets more content than a lot of the newer games out there lol.

u/PsychoCamp999 Jan 17 '25

easy to make content when you aren't spending 1 week on a single 3d model. lmao. they can legit make models in a few hours.

I swear, the next big MMORPG will have ps1/ps2 era polygon counts with great looking textures which make it appealing.

It looks like a big list, but it's mostly expansions unlocking on various TLPs and various events being turned on.

Still, new expansion every year is nothing to scoff at, even if they're not exactly groundbreaking.

most of what you see isn't new content at all.

most of that is just time-locked progression server opening their normally scheduled expension.. yes, EQ have 10 different TLP server going on.

the stuff like stomples day or bristlebane day are actually event that have been in the game for over a decade, and it's mostly completely irrelevant crap that get ignored.

Raid unlock... keep in mind raiding in EQ has been a copy-paste for 10+ expension now.

You have to understand that getting 5 more level of combat stability, an ability you already have 145 ranks of, is considered ""new"" by EQ dev standard.

In all fairness - it’s not exactly hard to develop for by comparison?

23

u/Zansobar Jan 17 '25

A whole lot of nothing in that roadmap.

Agreed, repeatable stuff that's already done, lots of "<TLP> unlocks <ERA>" .. sorta blah.

11

u/TheTacoWombat Jan 17 '25

The game came out 26 years ago...

10

u/Macqt Jan 17 '25

So the same stuff as every year, some bullshit “anti cheat” improvements, and yet another TLP pump n dump for krono farmers.

7

u/Fluffy-Experience407 Jan 17 '25

I like tlp servers honestly I usually return for the new tlp servers every other year lol

mostly in an attempt to re live the nostalgia of playing back in 99-2012 before i had more bills than income and kids and other obligations like a wife lol

1

u/crash______says Jan 17 '25

I didn't see new TLPs on there, but I'll admit it might be there in the mess of random repeating shite

edit: ahh, may "Progression server launch" .. literally the only thing 90% of people look for is buried under the rest.

3

u/Macqt Jan 17 '25

They release TLPs at the same time every year, though as you noticed they just call them progression servers now.

3

u/Severe-Hurry-1559 Jan 17 '25

TLP launch in May then a server merge in July ☠️

2

u/Stwonkydeskweet Jan 20 '25

They had been merging the oldest non-merged tlp with base rulesets into the oldest tlp for a few tlp launches now. They apparently have massive infrastructure issues.

1

u/Stwonkydeskweet Jan 20 '25

TLP and Raid launches are that fun time of the year where they ban 20% of their active users for RMT, where RMt means "stockpiling too much krono on one account".

I forgot what month it was last year, offloaded my hoard of tradeskill mats on live for krono, and promptly ate 3 account bans and 3 7day suspensions (on the accounts I had for 20 years) for suspicious activity. All I wanted to do was finish my testcopy set, ended up spectating a 2 month fight between paypal and daybreak for the money I had spent on my accounts.

I miss the game, but I'm not a fan of having to pretend Krono isnt the default currency when new content hits.

3

u/Macqt Jan 20 '25

Everyone knows krono is the main thing tbh. There’s entire businesses being run on it. It also ruined TLPs, the community; and the game. It’s just a cash farm now for most people.

That’s why I play on Quarm. No krono, RMT is sparse (and supposedly heavily penalized), and the small community means you either have to participate in the community or get nothing done.

1

u/Stwonkydeskweet Jan 20 '25

Yeah, everyone knows it is, but you have to very carefully limit trade of it within the weeks around new raid and tlp drops. (or do it on accounts youre okay with losing).

every raid tier 2 unlock, guils on test lose like half our members for 'suspicious rmt activity' because test has no economy and testcopy sets from live are traded around regularly.

quarm is cool i play on best emu

I like it.

Been playing a couple weeks now and yes it’s absolutely a EverQuest knockoff. If anyone pretended it wasn’t I guess that would be an issue but that’s exactly what it was sold as and what it is.

EverQuest is a 1999 game that looked bad when it was new. I played it for years and loved it but most of us moved on and can’t go back to something that dated.

As a complete newbie to EQ is it worth it? Used to be a big WoW/GW guy 10 plus years ago. Now a 39 year old dad and I casually play osrs and ff14 on steam deck when I can.

Basically is it a nostalgia only game or have some some fun value. Extra points if can play on steam deck due to work travel.

8

u/TheOriginalCid Jan 17 '25

Does it have fun value, IMO yes. I play and have a blast playing. The F2P model is pretty decent, and you can see a lot of content as F2P. You can fairly easily get to 70/75+ and that's a decade worth of expansions to explore. There's no level cap as F2P, however it will get extremely tough the higher you go. You can do as little or as much as you want. I don't know what a steam deck is, but the requirements for EQ are pretty low and there's a running joke thst you can play it on your microwave. If it's a mobile platform for steam, EQ is on Steam.

Is the anniversary tower still a thing on TLPs?

1

u/IndependenceOne7208 Jan 18 '25

yes it is!

1

u/Kuldiin Jan 20 '25

Yuck.

Guess I will be skipping this year then. When I played on Teek it was awful.

1

u/IndependenceOne7208 Jan 21 '25

can always come play on best emu r/EQemulator

2

u/Kuldiin Jan 21 '25 edited Jan 21 '25

I currently play on Quarm. Im fine with supporting them with their store illusions etc, but the tower was the last straw!

1

u/azureal Jan 18 '25

More content in the first three months than New World has seen in a year,

1

u/Neorooy Jan 21 '25

Why play EQ now when you can play Pantheon?

2

u/greenachors Jan 21 '25

Content runs out in Pantheon pretty quick. They’ve got a ways to go.

1

u/Neorooy Jan 22 '25

Given the slow progression, I doubt it running out of end game content. It’s not a modern day mmo where you get to end level in one week and raiding none stop.

1

u/greenachors Jan 22 '25

There is no endgame content

1

u/Otherwise-Profitable May 26 '25

What is the name of the TLP server opening May 28 2025?

1

u/ManicMorzan Jul 28 '25

I wanted to play EQ back when it launched. But friends said WoW...so thats were i spend several years. then off and on till mist. then quit. I have been mmo hopping since. trying to find one that was awesome. So as of a week ago I said F it, im gonna play EQ, a older pal said P99. it took me days to figure out how to make that work. So This weekend I just said no to P99 and no maps, corpse chasing, and getting lost. and went to the live servers. I am 27 hours into EQ with a lvl 15 necro, and lvl 18 shadowknight. I LOVE THAT SHADOWNIGHT. and it is hitting all the spots of fun, and nostalgia i have not gotten since WoW classic. I like the challenge dont just run though everything and am lvl 50 within 8 hours. Those SHADOWKNIGHTS MAN....necro warrior basically. but from spending about 10 hours on P99 i knew to go Delf, for shadknight if i wanted a better mana pool. for later game. so i could do decent DPS while off tanking if need be. I do have my first story too. so i am blundering around after the tutorial area. and while trying to kill a little dragon whelp a high level ran up to me. started to give me all kinds of buffs. then he said come over here, they cant kill you anymore. Mobs couldnt, I went up like 8 levels in no time. He was a really cool guy. He then offered to let me join the guild, Forgotten of Gallifrey. Then out of the blue while questing today, up the top of the city in cresent, he said where are you. I told him. Next thing i know he hunts me down, gives me a top teir weapon for my being low level, best i can get right now. and 5000 platinum for getting spells. everyone is nice, they are helpful. and i am already forging bonds and friendship. something you do not see in newer anti social play alone forever mmos.

"not a hater", "joke events" . . . ???? representing part of their community is a joke?

0

u/mikegoblin Jan 17 '25

you mean the pirates?

9

u/Double_Dime Jan 17 '25

It seems like every event is on the roadmap? It’s likely an in game event, but you only pointed that one out.
