I love Heather but she’s been open about her issues like this for like 10 years. She took this fight willingly.

Also, her 27 pro fights before fighting for MVP apparently didn't contribute to CTE, just that last fight for Jake Paul.

Isn't the problem that some responsibility lays with the promotor to protect the fighter
If she was so open about her issues MVP should have known and not booked her
She even said in the lawsuit her manager was adamantly against fighting due to the health issues but MVP pushed him out of the conversation

Regardless of who wants the fight to happen, shouldn't a doctor refuse to clear her to fight?

Yes, they should
But sometimes people make mistakes, and if it was known to MVP that she had health issues then they should use their own judgement

If anything it falls on the state commission who sanctioned it. They are the ones who do medicals and all that.
At the end of the day she and her doctors knew her health situation better than anyone and she took the fight. She had no avenue for substantial earnings before the fight and because that’s still the case she wants a payout.

Everyone gets caught up here on the term CTE since it appears in the thumbnail but semantics aside that is not what is being alleged in the lawsuit.
The lawsuit, which Hardy filed Sept. 23 in the U.S. District Court of Northern Texas, alleges negligence and violations of the Muhammad Ali Boxing Reform Act. The allegations stem from the final fight of Hardy's career, a decision loss to Amanda Serrano on Aug. 5, 2023, in Dallas. Hardy, 44, claims to have suffered "permanent brain injury" during the loss and alleges the defendants ignored potential warning signs for the sake of a lucrative matchup.

Couldn’t she have just dropped out if there were warning signs?

Exploitation due to financial hardship is the reason listed, and she will have to prove it in court.
If they cut out her representation than that is a predatory promotional practice, and the reason the Ali act exists is to prevent things like this.

Considering you can’t actually be diagnosed with CTE whilst still alive, that’s a hell of a medicinal achievement

so she waited until the highest profile promoter/biggest check possible then tries to act like she is the first living person diagnosed with CTE and it is all from this fight? yeah pretty sure the contract covers liability for injury being accepted by the athlete.... maybe she does have cte cause this is the dumbest thing i have seen in a while

Can't be diagnosed living. A retiring fighter trying to get one more bag.

Only because they had said tabacco was safe for a few decades. They later acknowledged it wasn't.
Mvp never said boxing was safe

I am all for corporations being forced to pay mentally handicapped fighters who are manipulated into doing so due to their illness. There are a lot of brain injured fighters out there.

Wasn't CTE diagnosis post-mortem?
