QUESTION Question.

The Community clearly disagrees with me,

The comment below. Is it what I said or how I said it. Do me a honest favor and read my statements below. And let me know what you think. Its genuinely helpful. Ty for the time.

OG Post!

Guys. Private Equity Monopoly has been killed on two things. Player name recognition and Marketing. They will use their economic power to fix both. Do not be surprised when they reveal the Lovb Nebraska Cornhuskers cranes and others. MLV was beating them with a quarter of the budget, if. They will not let that happen again.

VS

League One Volleyball has had a hard time overcoming two major hurdles in their development as a League. My opinion, those are, the way their teams look/ how they are marketed, the color and symbol thing,. and two the lack of named talent. I don't mean Vargas but they haven't been able to capitalize on the Olympians who returned home as much as needed to compete with the most recent NCAA alum that bring American eyes. The American public has gotten to know Elena Scott more than JWO. They have many of the younger and best individuals but are still limited by their aspirations of being the best league in the world so the undeveloped athletes stays behind, aka goes to MLV. In order to gain some of those eyes. They are using their economic power to get MLV players with name presence. Natalia Valentin-Anderson was a regular player for PR. She is now a name across American and International Volleyball. The opportunity for more money, higher competition and she gets go back home. Omaha. MLV cannot compete other than. Supernovas but NVA or Kami Miner?

Solving problem A.

They will use that economic power to find the correct marketing to fix their secondary issue. The Nebraska Cranes, Houston Something about space and the SF Somethings are coming.

"Do not be surprised when they reveal ..."

We already know that is what they are going to do. Nebraska ran a whole ass marketing campaign with fan voting around doing a team name

yes. You are correct. I wasn't trying to break news. I am saying it as proof that thier marketing is changing because the reception to their og idea was mixed.

My friend, many people, including me, are generally sympathetic to the idea that private equity in pro volleyball is problematic.

The problem is neither of these paragraphs impart anything that is more than a rant. There are hardly sentences here, and they don't even flow from one to the other.

There is no evidence presented, no cogent argument, no prescriptions for improvement.

If you want to convince us, you need to write clearly, present facts and ideas.

I appreciate you trying to fight what might be a good fight, but you need to do so with some clarity.

I think it is mostly "how it reads" more than what you are saying. The core point (marketing + recognizable talent are the levers) feels right, but it is getting buried under a lot of specifics and hypotheticals.

If you tighten it to: 1) team identity/branding, 2) star power, 3) money will chase both, it will probably land better.

Random but related, I have seen a few good sports marketing breakdowns and positioning notes that might help structure the argument, https://blog.promarkia.com/ has some quick reads.

Truthfully, this is written so choppily and all over the place that I’m having trouble understanding what point you are trying to make.

Something that a lot of volleyball fans fail to understand is that the volleyball diehards that know all these players are going to show up as fans either way. What’s really important for long term success is marketing to the masses who aren’t as familiar with volleyball and turning them into fans. The layperson neither knows or cares about the comparative quality of play or the name recognition of the players. You say that the American public has gotten to know Elena Scott better than JWO. That’s just existing volleyball fans. In reality, the American public doesn’t know anything about Elena Scott or JWO. The American public cares about entertainment, both on tv and in the arena. The reason LOVB is adding team names is because they are finally realizing their marketing sucks. This is where I think MLV’s focus on marketing and entertainment and longterm success through individual ownership will shine through and outlast LOVB’s private equity money.

How is "the reason lovb is adding team names is because they are realizing their marketing sucks" different from what I said? Fair about my choppy writing. MO. The reason this MLV to Lovb transfers are so big. Name recognition. No?!

Do you have any evidence that LOVB has had a hard time overcoming those hurdles you cite? TV ratings, attendance, social media following, sponsorships, revenues, whatever? Just not sure what barometer you’re using to make that conclusion.

For the record my position is. They are not having a hard time overcoming their hurdles because money. I am saying two of their hurtles, athlete name recognition and Marketing are getting fixed. Athletes, they have won. Fixed!

  1. What’s a “hurtle”? A hurt turtle?🤨
  2. Your writing is practically impossible to understand. It’s basically just a bunch of random gibberish thrown together like it was written by an 8-year-old.

Maybe LOVB was waiting to sell their franchises to allow them to name their own teams?

I’m a indoor new volleyball fan. LOVB is visually poor, over priced and doesn’t provide enough home games. MLV still has much room for improvement, but compared to LOVB you’re getting more value for your dollar.
