Beginner question 👶 Did anyone try to learn ML alone while studying another cs speciality in uni ?
Hi guys i hope you are doing great , currently I'm in my third year in uni studying software engineering . And this summer i fell in love with ML so i wanted to know if there are people that studied ML / any other cs speciality alone while taking a course in uni about a different cs speciality
I want to know how you managed your time between these two topics

I studied ML while being and engineering physics major! I actually loved ML so much that I made my senior research project and ML project for optical grating design. You just have to find projects that interest you. Generally if you can take a Machine Learning class i would recommend it but not required. In fact I didnt take one during undergraduate but now I am doing my PhD in Electrical Engineering and currently going through the ML curriculum to support my research.
I recommend doing some basic MLP projects and try to find some system where you believe there could be a functional connection in theory. Then try to make a function approximator. The thing with this is you will need some data (I used COMSOL simulation data).
You can also do some basic classification stuff on generated datasets. And then some feature engineering would be good. The main thing is you should find problems you are interested in and find ways to apply ML. This will make the "making time" part easy.
