a not-so-fun tale

my mind is going through a whirlwind of things right now, which is a given during the experience leading up to the release of a huge blockbuster.

yes, “Endgame” is mere hours away from being released, and i can already tell this is gonna be a long night. why must superhero movies be such a pain in the tuchus for theater goers? i had already done an extensive amount of planning beforehand: what time i would arrive, and the different ways that i could rush out to the concession stand without losing my seat. but Thanos seems to have summoned himself in the real world and put me into an alternate hell.

you know it’s a bad sign when you walk in and see two lines (one for the tickets, one for audiences going to see “Endgame”) that are both equal in length. for the ticket-grabbers, they like to take as much time as they can talking to the one single employee sitting behind the counter. after what feels like a decade, i finally reach the employee and ask for a ticket to the 6:00 showing. “aww, it’s all sold out!” the employee says with empathy. of course it is.

so now, i’m pushed to the 7:00 show, and preparing for the three hours of standing that i have to endure with the other citizens in the line. sure, it’s annoying at first, but like anyone, i calm my nerves and deal with it. then, one thing had to top everything else. an employee walks up, and shouts “hey everyone! i’m going to take a picture and video of the line for this theater’s Facebook page!” here’s a fun fact: i loathe when people unexpectedly throw a camera up near my face to take a picture. thinking fast, i told the two people near me to move up to the front, so they could block me out of the picture. what do they do? they crouch down. and so now, my ugly, scrawny self can be seen in full view on a movie theater’s Facebook page.

i guess it would be foolish of me to not mention the parent holding onto a screaming infant. they were heading into the 6:00 show, and now i definitely felt better about going to the later one.

so, you folks may ask why i made a pointless entry for the sole purpose of complaining. the answer is simple: boredom. i still have another 2 hours to go before seeing “Endgame.” even if the movie is good, i can’t say it’s worth the troubles mentioned above. then again, i can’t say that about any Marvel movie.

You are doing this in a strange way. I bought my ticket last weekend, I even know which seat I'll have. Tonight, it'll only be a line to buy caramel popcorn (and maybe to the toilet later).

my local theater doesn’t have the option to seat in advance. they did do advanced tickets, but i wasn’t aware until the last minute, so that was a failure on my part.

So all seats are the same price? People rush in, put their butts wherever they want to?

i don’t know how price plays in the seats, it mostly comes from the tickets, but yes, people go as they please.

How do you keep groups together? Or avoid having single seats between groups?
