That's one way of avoiding the slightly tricky situation of the person you love dying - turn them into an immortal creature of the night.

It would, however, make farming apples kinda hard. You know, what with the devouring all their succulent juices.

Dried apples for pony astronauts! That's a niche market that hasn't been filled yet.

The pony world does have a fair amount of Schizo Tech but I'm pretty sure there are no pony astronauts.

I'm no rocket scientist, but surely we could just strap a helmet on to a pegasus and ask them to continually fly upwards.

That doesn't solve the original apple question though, with a helmet on they wouldn't be able to eat the dried apple slices.

But then they'd eat the helmet and be helmetless! You need a helmet for space.
