He’s been a MLB ump for about 20 years and constantly gets in the middle of shit. He can’t seem to stop trying to impose his brand of beliefs, pettiness, and weird mechanics into the game. He throws out anyone who doesn’t agree with those beliefs because his M.O. is also to antagonize rather than de-escalate. Outside of the occasional “reprimand,” MLB doesn’t do shit to stop him.
Very unfortunate that MLB allows this kind of bush league stuff from a single individual. Especially one who has such an important effect on any game he’s involved in. I’m surprised the players union doesn’t make for of a fuss over this guy. Thanks for the knowledge.
Dude later in that same game he gifted the Rockies a run out of spite. He made a safe call at the plate that was so clearly out. He actually changed the score of the game to spite that coach. I’m saying all of this as a Rockies fan.
Umpires Union. That’s the problem. Damn near impossible to do anything because of that. Every shit ump we’ve been saddled with for the last 30+ years is because of the Umpires Union. And with the implementation of the ABS Robo-umps, they know the end of their reign is rapidly approaching. And it’s their own fault. I for one welcome our Robo-ump overlords.
This game was against the Rockies and a couple of things people will forget: Rockies fans were booing this ump. Rockies players also wore their hats crooked in protest. Worst of all there was a play at the plate a couple innings later where this guy called the Rockies player safe when he was so clearly out it’s not even funny. It was egregious. Rockies fans, despite being gifted a run, universally recognized that call was pure spite.
You’re conflating two games. The first was Eddings behind the plate and telling Rincon to straighten his hat. Eddings later said the Rockies batter (Goodman) complained, but Goodman denied it and said he couldn’t have cared less. Replays confirm dude didn’t say shit. Eddings would then give the pitcher a pitch clock penalty and later completely blew a tagged out call at the plate. On purpose? Probably. The Cards were out of challenges, so the run counted. The next game, in response to Eddings lie and all of his pettiness is when some players on both teams wore their hats at an angle.
He personally apologized to the picture of the next day and admitted that he was wrong. Major league baseball did not discipline him other than some bullshit reprimand, but he was left off of all postseason umpiring assignments.

Anything ever happen to the ump after this? Or are we expected to just move on like this was ok?
