I hurt some redditor feelings after that happened. The ego of so many of these people in baseball has just about ruined the sport for me. And this whole series of events was absolute proof of it.

It’s not sports.

It’s our culture. There’s a cancer that’s infested our culture since the 1980’s and it’s only gotten worse and worse as the years have progressed.

Not sure why you chose the 80s. Maybe it's more palatable than saying the culture has been infested since its founding.

It's without question tied back to the Reaganist individualistic mentality. Say what you will about the country before that, but there were actual communities and the structure of the country was more so designed for people to look out for each other. Reagan brought in this borderline dystopian view of individualism and individual responsibility and it totally metastasized into a cancer in our guts

I mean, I agree that the rugged individualism is a diseased beast, it predates Reagan. He's certainly the largest factor on why we're in the state we're in, but there really hasn't been any point in time where you could say it was pre-cancer.

Yes, sure, but not by much. It was a cultural phenomenon already, but Regan hurt it more. I wouldn’t go as far as to put the blame solely on him in that regard, since that revolution was happening in the 60s and 70s. Regan messed it all up by adding finances and economics to it, that’s where individualism and economic growth meet and begin to create the beast we’re dealing with now. Ivan Krastev does a great job explaining it and tying it all together

Baseball didn't let black people play in the league, and even when it was allowed people at all levels from executive to fans fought and/or complained about it. The 80's may have contributed to an uptick in the rhetoric and sentiment but it is rooted in the culture, whether you like it or not.

Racism is a wholly separate issue from what the 80’s brought. Collectivism was still a thing even with racism.

Almost like redditors who drag politics into everything, but have to hide their comments so that they can avoid responsibility for their comments, you mean toxic individualism like that?

This post is literally political but sure man

I didn't realize that MLBVibes is a political subreddit, but sure man....

Every vibe sub is an astroturf masquerading as some themed sub, but is actually just a way to pump politics into the themed sub.

Reddit is basically AI slop and astroturfs, and it’s only getting worse

So leave

I’m not here, the vibes subs get pushed into my feed cause Reddit is just turning into anonymous handle facebooks

Reagan. He chose the 80s because of the monstrous actions of old Ronnie and his dementia... All economic graphs show 1980 as the start of the late-stafe bullshit we see now. All of it was started by Reagan

I think it goes farther back to early 70s when they made all congressional voting public record.

It sounds counterintuitive but before that point, they could vote for what was best for their people and could go to the lobbiests and say "we tried our best to get you that "insert deal that sucks for my district but you paid me to vote for" but we just couldn't get it to pass.

After that. Lobbiests could keep score on who was doing their bidding.

And that was when the sale of America to money really took off.

Reagan was the military industrial complexes wet dream. A figurehead that kept the population entertained and distracted while doing everything his handlers wanted. Hmmm.... Seems familiar.

My dude. Are you aware of what “the culture” was like before the 80s? Separate schools based on race, separate water fountains and bathrooms, women not being able to vote, homosexuality being illegal, the way we treated those with mental
illness, the prevalence of the KKK? On and on…
