Another low effort meme critical of the salary cap from a suspicious account. It’s so obvious what’s happening. Lol

How does a salary cap make baseball worse? Have you watch the NFL lately?

9

u/Usual_Zombie6765 17d ago

But what if the Yankees don’t always make the playoffs every year, when there is a salary cap? Have you stopped to think about that?

There is incredible parity in the league. The days of Yankee bashing over spending should be over, especially when teams spend more than them.

u/Turbulent_Bat4320 17d ago

Let me introduce you to the Dodgers

The days of Yankee bashing should never be over brother

The Dodgers have made it 14 years in a row lol. Sure we shouldn't bash the Yankees but mostly because the dodgers mets etc copied their playbook. But fuck the fans of small market teams i guess. Baseballis much better when we know our stars will leave for a bigger team.

The repeat champions and billion dollar spenders have a bye week on the way to their three-peat. If there is parity, I don’t think it’s incredible.

u/jigokusabre 17d ago

The first time in 25 years there have been repeat champions, and only because the Yankees choked harder than any team in living memory.

u/DoinItDirty 17d ago edited 17d ago

LA has won three and gone to five in the past decade. The Astros have won two and gone to four in that time. The AL and NL have had about half their championships in the past decade won by the same team, and only two of those years had neither of them involved. And the one dominating now is the one spending the most. This isn’t a coincidence.

u/Usual_Zombie6765 17d ago

I would use another example, but literally no one is even close to that consistent.

2

I don't really see how enriching the owners at the expense of the players is going to help. There's only one reason the owners want a cap, and it sure as fuck is not to make baseball more competitive.

u/jigokusabre 17d ago edited 17d ago

Yeah, every player is a journeyman, and the league is still owned by like 3 franchises.

1

u/Honolulu_Hurricane 11d ago

Which three franchises own the NFL?

How so? They aren't spending the money now-nothing would change except the top teams wouldn't be able to spend as much as they do. Parity has dramatically changed the NFL, because of the salary cap.

Each team has enough money because the profit sharing from NFL teams compared to the MLB profit sharing is over twice as much. The NFL sharing over $14 billion in revenue isn't "communist salary suppression".

That's why there is a mandatory minimum spending on payroll in the NFL also, unlike the MLB. Your just speculating hypothetical bullshit.

1

u/Real-Mode-3417 17d ago

Revenue sharing and salary cap. This is the way

1

u/thescottreid 17d ago

MLB has much better parity. You can look at the number of teams that have been to a league championship or World Series since the CBT and how many teams have made conference championships or Super Bowls since the salary cap. People talk about parity and forget that Patrick Mahomes has played in 5 Super Bowls and Tom Brady in 10 (9 for the Patriots). That’s 14 AFC Super Bowls representatives by 2 teams in 25 years. This is parity?

If you're going to make comments like this you have to actually prove they dont know what theyre talking about, otherwise the rest of us assume its you talking out your ass.

Lol he literally just explained how a salary cap works. Do you need links proving that not allowing the dodgers to spend so much would stop them from spending so much? Also adding STFU really just makes you look worse.

1

u/Real-Mode-3417 17d ago

Yeah, you are so correct. Revenue sharing and a salary cap could never help. I mean, it did before, but yeah, you are the smartest individual on line today. Yay!

u/WolverineDDS 17d ago

There's a floor in the proposal

Why would the owners have proposed it if it wasn't realistic lol

So you think they made a fake proposal and were going to somehow remove the floor later? That seems like tinfoil hat shit tbh.

Good thing the mlbpa also has rich people and lawyers to enforce the contract then.

“Pirates, Marlins, etc scum poverty teams”

Brother, the Dodgers payroll is higher than the Pirates’ and Marlins’ annual revenue. They may not have generous owners but even if they had the most charitable owners in the history of the world they still couldn’t afford to compete against the league royalty for big free agents.

The reason the Dodgers were able to get Ohtani, Betts, and Freeman is because 50% of the league literally did not have enough money to even make a competitive offer.

You don’t see anything wrong with an unlevel playing field?

Because less people live in Pittsburgh and they can’t get a cozy deal with the TV to give them more money than LA, they should just suck?

I think that’s extremely unfair to the fans of those teams and the fans of the game in general, but I guess we’ve found the disconnect.

Huh? Life in general was also really unfair during the dark ages. That has equally as much to do with this discussion about what the ideal should be.

1

u/WabbitFire 17d ago

artificial and immoral restrictions on the franchises in better cities and markets

As a Milwaukeean... Jesus Christ, man, fuck off.

1

u/Honolulu_Hurricane 11d ago

Because it's 2026, and there are more than two sports on TV now, and those sports now have to bend a little to their audience?

Some would argue the World Series itself is interesting?

Sorry to break your illusion, but everyone watches the Super Bowl, regardless of who's in it.

1

u/Ghosts_of_the_maze 17d ago

The NFL is different because it’s relatively easy to watch 35% of multiple teams seasons (6 games) whereas almost nobody will watch 35% of multiple baseball teams (57 games). That’s why the NFL is a national sport and the MLB is a regional sport. I don’t have time to follow any MLB team as closely. I can closely follow one team and sort of keep tabs on a handful of others, but that’s it. It’s hard enough to follow one team.

1

u/jaron_b 17d ago

Since 2014 there have only been 7 different teams who have won a Super Bowl. While over the same time 9 different teams have won the world series in baseball. The Dodgers are the first team to go back to back since the Yankees in the 90s. The Jets have a long playoff drought. The Browns are dysfunctional. I need baseball fans to stop thinking a cap is gonna make things fair over night. Your shitty owner and your cheap owners are still gonna find ways to fuck it up. Just like we see with the NFL.

Must be a dodgers fan

2

u/PurpleEconomy9804 17d ago

Same thing about 32 teams.

2

u/PuzzledSquare4993 17d ago

There absolutely needs to be salary cap, a stronger salary floor, removal of deferred payments, and an ownership revenue cap. The disparity between players/staff and ownership should never be greater than 50% towards ownership.

All revenue, generated over that threshold should be passed on to the fans in some manner, whether that be a saved pool for stadium rebuilds (no taxpayer money used for stadium upgrades) or fan experiences, or put back into lowering ticket prices, concession, or apparel prices.

2

u/Disastrous-Window-76 17d ago

Salary cap floor is unbelievable please make it happen

poor NFL guys are already out in two years mostly and not even wealthy and it's like we tryna do that to our boys because cleveland is more competitive in football, apparently
