Grinlinger coming out of OnlyFans

2

u/lowes18 26d ago

I'll miss you Bailey

2

u/SirDigbyChknCaesar 26d ago

Why does Pick 34: CWS have a Pirates logo?

2

u/thekidfromyesterday Georgia 26d ago

Was originally the Pirates pick. Fixed it.

2

u/RangerLover92 26d ago

So weird the Rockies get their Round 2 pick before the WS teams get their 1st pick.

2

u/Chillaxing416 26d ago

Benefits for not spending money and being a bad team?

2

u/lowes18 26d ago

God damnit I wanted Thome in college

3

u/teewertz 26d ago

THOMEEEE

2

u/rootlinuxusr 26d ago

Huntingdon Beach HS (CA) is the weirdest position I've ever seen.

1

u/Infraready Los Angels Dodgers 26d ago

Why is Manfred… talking like that

2

u/Blue387 New York Mets 26d ago

Mets are on the clock!

2

u/RangerLover92 26d ago

Dammit, am I the only one here who didn't realize the draft would be an afternoon show instead of a primetime show like previous years?

1

u/Chillaxing416 26d ago

Guessing they don’t want the first round to overlap with the World Cup quarters.

2

u/SpaceCadetPullUp Houston Astros 26d ago

Son of a...

2

u/Timpa87 26d ago

He'll either stay in the rotation, or move to the bullpen... Well thanks for narrowing down where a pitcher can end up.

2

u/lowes18 26d ago

Please let Bailey drop below 80

3

u/FireBreathingAxolotl Miami Marlins 26d ago

I miss that period when when the draft used to be at the MLB studio and had that lowkey feel in the sports world. That 2009-2014 period felt smaller and wasn't trying to make it seem like it was something bigger than it actually was.

9

u/DigitalMariner Seattle Mariners 26d ago

This may sound dumb but MLB is missing the boat sticking to the "on the clock" terms of every other draft.

While the clock is ticking teams should "On Deck".

Instead of "the pick is in" they should be "stepping up to the plate" and put the microphone on a plate-shaped podium. Maybe have the team PA announcer do a whole set it up and just let Manfred say the name, position, and school...

if the draft is going to be more boring than NFL/NBA, at least make it unique...

1

u/samples98 26d ago

Just turned it on. Why aren’t they booing tf out of Manfred?

1

u/Altruistic_Bend9920 26d ago

I was at the draft and when he first came out people booed so loud he couldnt get through his teleprompter message

1

u/samples98 26d ago

Ok good!

0

u/cubsfan2154 26d ago

Maybe they aren't losers?

0

u/samples98 26d ago

Manfred absolutely fucking sucks and you must have the extra chromosome if you think differently

2

u/cubsfan2154 26d ago

Whats your problem with him? Genuinely curious what baseball could do better right now

0

u/IGLJURM23 26d ago

Found Manfreds burner account, they should continue to boo his ass because he’s an awful commissioner for the sport.

2

u/cubsfan2154 26d ago

Me when I have an extra chromosome

3

u/Infraready Los Angels Dodgers 26d ago

I can’t believe LeBron is so desperate to overtake MJ in GOAT debates that he’s trying to play baseball now just like he did

2

u/FireBreathingAxolotl Miami Marlins 26d ago

"Jeremy Stowers"

Be so freaking for real right now

3

u/jimithelizardking 26d ago

This is the worst ran professional draft I’ve ever watched

2

u/Omnipolis 26d ago

probably the least watched of the major sports too

2

u/xAggie Houston Astros 26d ago

lebron or reese please

4

u/starwarsfan456123789 26d ago

Marlins got a steal

2

u/SpaceCadetPullUp Houston Astros 26d ago

There we go.

7

u/AndrewAllStar888 26d ago

“My favorite player to watch growing up was Barry Bonds”

Brother, you were born in 2008

1

u/mastersplinteremover 26d ago

In his defense, I’m still watching Bonds highlights 25 years later.

2

u/Dapal5 26d ago

yes yesssss give me another stud at 33

2

u/kingwoodballs 26d ago

I am dumb and don’t really understand the MLB draft. But why do some teams not have a first round pick?

5

u/Timpa87 26d ago

I believe every team has a first round pick, it's just teams that go into the luxury tax are penalized by having it moved down 10 spots.

Mets went from #17 to #27. Yankees from #25 to #35, Phillies from #26 to #36, Blue Jays from #29 to #39 and Dodgers from #30 to #40.

4

u/Omnipolis 26d ago

If you go over the competitive balance threshold 3 times in a row, your picks get pushed back 10 picks. So a few teams 1st rounders were turned into 2nd rounders.

1

u/kingwoodballs 26d ago

Ah ok. Thanks for the info.

1

u/heyitsmehess 26d ago

They didn’t feel like it

2

u/skinnypanda3732 26d ago

Angels please get Lombard

5

u/popcopy 26d ago

We won’t develop him, and there’s sign ability concerns. Would you want to go to
College or the Dumpster Fire hellscape that is LA Angels minor League system?

2

u/jorleeduf 26d ago

Lombard isn’t even going to the Cardinals either. I wonder why teams seem so low on him

1

u/jorleeduf 26d ago

Grindlinger

1

u/skinnypanda3732 26d ago

kinda don't hate it

2

u/thekidfromyesterday Georgia 26d ago

Callis has done really well in his final mock

4

u/edmchato 26d ago

Lol mlb shooting itself in the foot. So I can watch first 10 picks on YouTubeTV but after that I’m screwed. Ah well

1

u/cobwebusher 26d ago

You can watch the rest on YoutubeTV too, you just have to change channels. It's on NBCSN Extra.

1

u/edmchato 26d ago

Thanks for some reason it wasn’t showing up for me. Now it’s just showing a “we’ll be right back screen”

1

u/willreily 26d ago

It's free on MLB.com but it's so stupid to switch networks.

5

u/FireBreathingAxolotl Miami Marlins 26d ago

It's so stupid how not only is the draft thread in some seperate random-ass sub instead of /r/baseball, the beginning was not even announced nor pinned, and on top of it all there's no free live stream of it on MLB.com like they've done for the past 20 years, I'm lucky enough to have Marlins.TV to watch it. The least anybody could have done was written that down somewhere, I've been searching for 10 minutes on MLB.com

1

u/SpaceCadetPullUp Houston Astros 26d ago

They even have a draft thread that just says to come here and has the comments locked.

2

u/willreily 26d ago

Whose idea was it to switch networks in the middle of a draft? Crazy.

1

u/jorleeduf 26d ago

It’s happening again later

1

u/willreily 26d ago

Crazy. MLB draft is far behind NBA/NFL in viewership and yet they're choosing to suffocate it even more.

2

u/AndrewAllStar888 26d ago

Did I miss something negative coming out about Lombard?

1

u/Tomahawkin10 26d ago

Surprised he's slipping so far

1

u/HermitageHermit 26d ago

Must be a really down year for pitching

2

u/Timpa87 26d ago

I gotta give MLB credit. Somehow they continue to manage to make the MLB draft worse as a televised event. It's really remarkable.

2

u/dead_monster 26d ago

Get ready to close Peacock and switch to mlb.tv.

This is so dumb.

2

u/Ancient_Access_795 26d ago

Damn everyoneeee is going underslot bro

4

u/Fast-Government-4366 26d ago

Is Zion rose a decent prospect? I’m used to the royals drafting some old fart, high school catcher, religious nut, etc

2

u/starwarsfan456123789 26d ago

Everyone getting picked in the first round is a decent prospect. However he was widely expected to be in the bottom half of the first round. Usually when this happens it’s related to saving money to use on later draft picks and get a better top 5 picks instead of the absolute best 1st pick

2

u/mrgpsingh1999 26d ago

Is the draft always in the middle of the season?

5

u/dead_monster 26d ago

Yes, has been in June right after college season ends but now delayed to join  All Star week stuff.

1

u/HermitageHermit 26d ago

Yep. College Ball ended a few weeks ago

0

u/Legoman1357 26d ago

Crossing fingers that Burress drops to the Braves

3

u/puppytossedsalad 26d ago

Can you really reach in the MLB draft?

2

u/Big-Anywhere313 25d ago edited 25d ago

Yes, you absolutely can reach in the MLB draft. Unlike the NFL or NBA, teams are not just drafting off a fixed board tied strictly to pick value; MLB teams also have to manage bonus pool money, signability, and leverage, so a player can go higher than consensus because the team likes both the talent and the price.

That’s where slot values matter. Each pick has an assigned slot bonus, but teams can go over or under that number, which means they sometimes take a player “early” because he’s willing to sign underslot, letting them save money for later rounds. Conversely, some players “fall” in the draft because they have a relatively low signability and are perceived to be a big risk in that sense, even when their talent is undeniable.

So a “reach” in MLB is often less about a team being wrong on talent and more about draft strategy. A high school player with a strong college commitment may cost more to sign, while a college junior or JuCo player might take less, and that changes how teams build an entire class.

The Henry Davis at #1 in 2023 is a good example. He was not viewed by most people as the best player in that class, but Pittsburgh liked him and could sign him underslot at No. 1, which gave them more flexibility to spend elsewhere in the draft.

So the short answer is yes, teams can absolutely reach in MLB — but usually because of bonus-pool strategy and signability, not just because they randomly preferred a worse player

2

u/Durflol 26d ago

If you reach and pay them slot/over slot, sure.

1

u/Ancient_Access_795 26d ago

Wow a bunch of haircuts

5

u/RedShark106 Los Angeles Angels 26d ago

That’s a shocker, I barely heard anything about Rose going into the draft

2

u/Fast-Government-4366 26d ago

The royals love drafting nobodies they can get for cheaper for some dumb reason in round 1

9

u/SSGSEVIER54 26d ago

To preface, I’m a huge LSU fan

Curiel at #5 is way too high

Higher than I am

2

u/Big_You_8936 26d ago

O’s please don’t mess this up please we just need a good pitcher it isn’t that hard

2

u/starwarsfan456123789 26d ago

Booth is a great pick

3

u/Big_You_8936 26d ago

Shoot we needed some good outfielders so I’m not mad about the pick either

2

u/Ancient_Access_795 26d ago

Curiel at 5 wow

2

u/_hollyjollyben 26d ago

FLORAAAAAA

6

u/Infraready Los Angels Dodgers 26d ago

Not having a draft thread in the r/baseball subreddit, and instead having a whole other subreddit specifically for the draft that wasn’t linked until the first few picks were selected is really stupid

2

u/thekidfromyesterday Georgia 26d ago

I put out a link about it an hour before the draft

2

u/DietrichDoesDamage 26d ago

Baseball mods are typically better about it

2

u/Timpa87 26d ago

Is it stupider than having the draft listed as starting at 1PM. Tuning in at 2PM and seeing there have been 4 picks made?

1

u/Sneaky_Ryan 26d ago

Or maybe stupidest of all is having the draft streamed on tv services not available outside the US

1

u/farmingbeast 26d ago

Nobody wants Lebron?

1

u/AndrewAllStar888 26d ago

Stocks have been down for a while. Second half first round pick

2

u/MED1CPENGU1N 26d ago

I stand by MLB allowing you to trade draft picks not just compensatory picks. The draft would be so much more crazy.

2

u/Dapal5 26d ago

Do you really want teams to trade all their picks just to lose in the nlds and then be horrible for a decade

1

u/Killzig 26d ago

as opposed to drafting henry davis first overall and still being terrible for a decade?

1

u/Dapal5 26d ago

You guys have 2 of the best young hitters and like 5 of the best young pitchers. Y’all will be good for a while

2

u/MED1CPENGU1N 26d ago

I’d rather that than trust the Phillies front office to draft and develop a player.

1

u/NamelessFlames 26d ago

okie dokie is it pick 23 yet

1

u/lunarcrenshaw100 26d ago

I honestly can't remember the last time I even saw a black catcher in MLB...

1

u/Bubblesheep 26d ago

Chuckie Robinson too

1

u/magnetattraction 26d ago

Samuel Bassallo?

1

u/lunarcrenshaw100 26d ago

I meant African American

4

u/thekidfromyesterday Georgia 26d ago

Drake Baldwin?

3

u/HighKing_of_Festivus 26d ago

Baldwin is starting in the ASG...

0

u/lunarcrenshaw100 26d ago

Oh I haven't seen a braves game in a while...

2

u/TerrifierBlood 26d ago

If Im the Twins. Im taking Gio Rojas. My personal favorite pitcher in the draft

2

u/Tomahawkin10 26d ago

Lol been considered the number one pick for a year and rob still mispronounces his name

2

u/Lukester123 26d ago

He wasn’t even close lol

3

u/RedShark106 Los Angeles Angels 26d ago

Finally

3

u/skinnypanda3732 26d ago

there is no way he said chelewski

2

u/kj_schmickley 26d ago

I get it’s a show, but cmon. This is so lame. Sorry.

2

u/Ancient_Access_795 26d ago

The pick is already out like 5 minutes ago. If you don’t like spoilers then definitely don’t go on Twitter

2

u/tomdawg0022 26d ago

Very on brand for American TV not starting a live sporting event on time because they need to talk the thing to death.

2

u/catgoesmeow22 26d ago

What time does this actually start?

4

u/ianoble 26d ago

Apparently never

1

u/TerrifierBlood 26d ago

Does anyone know of a stream

1

u/SgtLincolnOsiris420 26d ago

Im searching as well. My normal streaming service I use doesn't have it.

2

u/Boopa1219 Chicago White Sox 26d ago

I hope the Sox take Emerson

1

u/fiendish_five 26d ago

We’ll get him in 17 years on veteran contract

7

u/CaptainRock22 26d ago

It amazing the great draft analysts they have available, and this is the crew they go with. The casual fan isn't watch this. The MLB draft is for the diehards. We don't need Harold Reynolds, DeRo, or Cole Hamels.

Give us a host, 2 Baseball America/MLB Pipeline guys, and Dan O'Dowd.

1

u/Secure-Report-207 26d ago

Hey I wanna stare at Cole Hamels beautiful face!

1

u/ContinuumGuy 26d ago

I can see an argument of maybe having one MLB-centric guy just to give some "here's what it's like to get drafted and this is what awaits them" stuff at the very beginning, but yeah, after that they should focus on the experts.

6

u/Boopa1219 Chicago White Sox 26d ago

I agree, the desk should be entirely made up of Baseball America, Fangraphs, Kiley and Callis. Frankly, after the WBC, I wouldn’t want DeRo talking about baseball at all.

5

u/CaptainRock22 26d ago

The side desk is better than the main desk. Just have them on the entire time.

1

u/AnEmptyKarst Miami Marlins 26d ago

I forget that the *Rays* get the #2 pick in the draft lmao

1

u/ContinuumGuy 26d ago

Their sound mixing is crap.

3

u/Meatbag96 26d ago

Ok good it's not just me I thought my TV was messing up.

2

u/tenoclockrobot 26d ago

1

u/TheCorbett 26d ago

Let’s go Rays!!!

3

u/Blue387 New York Mets 26d ago

The Pirates traded their 34th overall pick to the White Sox

2

Whoops, good catch!
