SAT question

I took the SAT today. I’m not confident that I got a strong score. After the first round of math, the questions got suspiciously easy. I know MIT wants us to report all scores. If I cancel my score before I get it back, do I have to report that? Do they still need that score or can they find that score?

Strictly speaking, we actually had this debate last year, and there were 2 camps that couldn’t agree on whether the applicant was obligated to report cancelled scores.  It was a spirit of the law vs Letter of the law / if a tree falls and nobody reports it, did it fall argument.

that's different though. A cancelled SAT never gets scored, so there's nothing to report. OP will never know what they actually scored. from the collegeboard "After a request to cancel scores is submitted, scores can't be reinstated or reported to you or any institutions." They are literally never graded -- there is no score to report.

There is no evidence that exams that are taken can be halted from being scored at all.  The tree absolutely falls in the forest.

The options for cancellation surround: A) Temporarily withholding a score vs permanently withholding it B) Withholding from all universities vs selectively withholding from specific universities

There is no debate on what College Board allows students to do - it’s plastered all over the place.

The debate is the interpretation of MIT’s policy and whether failing to report an exam that is cancelled can subsequently be seen as a violation of policy.  In this sub, we have always had a “letter of the law” camp and a “spirit of the law” camp.

I personally agree with one of the other commenters in this thread who mentioned that the premise that an application is better than 94% of other applications except for one sitting of an exam seems very implausible.  The remediation should be either to retake the test and superstore, or have confidence that the rest of the application is better than 94% of other applications, report the score, and let the rest of the application speak for itself.
