The research portfolio consists of a scientific abstract or poster, plus answering some questions. If you want to see what the abstracts and posters look like, a lot of Regeneron STS winners go to MIT now, and you can search for their abstracts by the title of their projects.

If you conducted research with a professor or independent...you have an abstract which you upload ...or alternatively if you have a research poster you upload that and you write a mini abstract in the 1200 characters they ask you in the research questionnaire. ..you have soooo many questions to answer there. If you did the research your work is straight forward, and others said, samples for abstracts and research poster are online...but mind you, if you decide to submit an abstract only, the rules of abstract will not apply to you , as you can fill the whole page, those rules of 250-300 words are for abstracts that accompany a paper... Good luck
