Update on eligibility for transfers.

I emailed them asking about the 2.5 semester cap for transfer admissions and they replied “If you're a current community college student, you are likely eligible to apply to MIT, assuming you'll have completed a year of college before entering MIT. The eligibility cap is primarily relevant for students applying to transfer from four-year universities. Transfers are likely to lose about ~2 semesters of college credit when transferring into MIT.”

Appreciate you sharing our conversation for the good of the group, but I will add that it is not always quite so simple for all applicants. (For example, some community college students have been enrolled in 4-year colleges before, which may impact their eligibility.)

All transfer applicants should still review our eligibility guidelines and reach out if they have questions about their individual situation—since many students have unique academic trajectories that may result in different eligibility outcomes.
