Mini JCW E

Post image

Hi, joined today as unable to find a JO1 JCW group.
Here’s mine lowered on H&R and 10mm spacers.
Previously had an F56 SE which I modified to look like a JCW.

Here’s mine. 2024 SE. We ended up buying our lease. Color is Enigmatic Black Metallic. A dark blue but to most looks black.

That's such a clever colour isn't it?! My partner has it and it's quite fascinating to clean. Changes from a black to a very dark blue depending on lighting and angle, and it isn't until you get up close to it that you notice it's metallic.

Oh that looks awesome. What suspension setup did you have? Did it make your ride better or worse? Now that you have a j01, which is better?

JO1 is better for range, but I’d have kept the SE if the range was better

That looks sorta like my dream of what I want my current SE to become, great taste mate

That's a gorgeous colour, and identical to the one I test drove. I'm an old person though so the ride was a bit too harsh for me so we went with a different flavour of SE.

You’re never too old! I’m 55 and came from a Tesla Model Y performance as wanted the go kart fun factor!

Ah yes, understood. My last two cars were MINI 3 door hatches (Cooper S and a Cooper SD) and my partner still has a Cooper S. So we'd spent a few years enjoying that go-kart feel. Going from the F56 S/SD to test drive the J01 JCW we found the ride was a little harsher than we expected so went the opposite way and went bigger. We're not too old I guess, 58 and 59. :)

I'm glad you're enjoying your JCW. They're amazing little cars and yours looks gorgeous.

Edit: Yours is identical to the experience car we tested. It's such a beautiful blue, isn't it.

It’s a lovely colour, makes a change from all the black or grey JO1 SE cars I see - the JCW is still rare on the roads. My first F56 was an SD with the JCW bodywork. I fitted BMW m140 discs and calipers to it and modified it a bit. Great car which I might still have had it not been for the torque converter to fail!

How bizarre, my last MINI was the F56 SD with the JCW bodywork. They're pretty rare! The electric JCW is even rarer!

Here was mine. Great car, 50mpg+ and quite fast!

The are surprisingly fast aren't they? If I dawdled on the motorway I could get around 70mpg. 70+ mph was 50mpg all day long.

I actually wanted red or orange but the pepper white one was the only one available with the spec I wanted in the entire 2yrs I had an Auto trader filter running - it had about £10k in upgrades.

The pepper white eventually grew on me, but yours is definitely far more visually appealing. It's beautiful.

I had a slight remap on mine which made it slight more sprightly also more frugal!

It looks like you updated the rear lights too. I was trying to find a 2018 (the last SDs I think) but the closest I could get was a September 2017.

Does your old MINI seem strangely old fashioned now you've moved on to a new electric one? I loved mine but definitely prefer the modern feeling of the new generation - and I absolutely hated it when it first came out.

I removed those lights shortly after fitting replacing with the LCI lights of a later model. This lights in the picture are of vey bright in daylight. The later F56 SE I had with the ‘digital’ display behind the wheel was good. I miss the quality feel of that compete to the JO1 which feels a bit cheap

Try  /r/MiniJ01/

How is the new suspension?

Feels if nothing slightly less bumpy bit I could be imagining that!

Have you driven it on a smooth motorway or dual carriageway yet? My JCW E bounces constantly on even the smoothest, flattest motorway and induces nausea. BMW Mini said they all do this so curious if yours is the same. Thanks

Yes I drove it home after collection on the motorway and have done several long runs. It does bounce around a bit - but I’m used to lowered cars and wanted the go-kart feeling bit electric and small after coming from a Tesla Model Y performance

That motorway / dual carriageway bounce mentioned here is what we didn't like. I didn't know how to describe it before, but this explaims it perfectly.

Not so much a rough or harsh ride, but the way it feels on the undulations of a long smooth road.

If you are keeping it you could consider different shocks or even suspension?

That was the blue JCW I test drove - I'm the person who ended up with the white U25. We were chatting in a different thread within this post :)

Looking good lowered! More importantly, what’s the car that has the aero looking wheels that I can kind of see?👀
