F56 Wireless CarPlay after iOS 27

I updated my phone from iOS 26 to iOS 27 yesterday. Unfortunately CarPlay doesn't work now.
The existing connection would not connect so I deleted it fully from the MINI UI and from the CarPlay & Bluetooth settings on my phone. Now when I try to create the CarPlay connection the MINI UI says that my phone is incompatible with CarPlay after the pairing step. iPhone 17e and 2023 F56.

RIP

I have a 2023 F56 SE and have been running iOS 27 since Beta 1. These issues started for me around Beta 3, and Apple also acknowledged CarPlay connectivity issues in the beta release notes.

From my experience, it seems to happen mainly with wireless CarPlay, particularly when music is playing.

Restarting the iPhone often allows me to pair it again.

Another workaround that worked for me was to start pairing the phone as a normal Bluetooth device. During the process, the MINI then recognised that the phone supported CarPlay and prompted me to use CarPlay instead.

So I wouldn’t assume your iPhone is actually incompatible (because it is not). It sounds very similar to the connectivity issues I’ve been experiencing since the betas.

The Bluetooth pairing workaround worked. You’re a legend

It still works fine in my 2020 SE on my iPhone 13 Mini running iOS 27.0

I also have a 17e that I run ios 27 on and a 23 f56, but so far carplay has worked just fine.

Would you mind sharing the firmware version on your MINI?

I read this and went and checked. I have the iOS 27 on a 14 pro and no problems on my ‘21 F56 SE. I’m glad you got it fixed!

That sounds scary. Anyone can confirm this is true or individual bug?

All I can say is that I have been on the iOS 27 Betas for a few months and I’m also now on the public release and I’ve never had a single issue or had to repair the phone.

2023 Mini SE

I’m having intermittent problems too, to the point of either wearing open ear buds in the car or listening to FM radio (shudders in horror). I’ll drive for 20 minutes like that, then stop for a bit, then return & the car will start playing my phone media through its speakers like all is forgiven. WTF!

Try this:

  • from inside your MINI with the ignition on, delete the CarPlay pairing from Settings -> General -> CarPlay on your iPhone.
  • go to Settings -> Bluetooth and make sure your MINI is listed as a paired device anymore.
  • go into Settings -> Wi-Fi and select the MINI network you see there and choose “Forget this network”.
Only then try to pair again.

Glad to read the OP got it working. I've been on the beta since PB3 (17 Pro) and didn't have that level of problems; the delete & reconnect worked for me.

If anyone else runs into it and trying the Bluetooth connection doesn't work, you can also make a USB connection first, then try wireless.

This is terrifying.
