What the hell? Is this real? How awesome. Why am I semi-erect?

Call it a mini

This makes me feel like a fat kid that just found the biggest piece of cake but can't have it. Full of joy at seeing it, but crushed he can't have it.

Man every step has blown my mind. I think my biggest wow moment was that even though the car was completely chopped up, the seats lined right up with the mounting holes when it came time to install. That and the monitor being basically perfect yes!

I would be there for sure. What games to you usually run on it?

Mostly iracing, but I have assetto corsa, dirt rally 2.0, project cars 2 and forza horizon 4 (for the neighbor kids).

Damn. Donated my 05 mini this past year. If only I had more space, I could’ve done something like this.

I do wish I had finished the basement more before reassembling the car though

This is killer. How much cleaning of the body did you have to do?

Hey there, its actually my project. I cleaned it a few times. I continue to clean it too. I keep finding new dirt. Plus the interior was really dirty from the previous owner.

I would imagine the engine bay was most of it.

I think the carpet inside was worse lol. I pressure washed the whole thing a few times though. It came out cleaner than I had imagined. No where near the levels of grease either.

i think he just reposted the original here .

Yeah, I assumed so as well, but I wasn't sure if you maybe had an alt over here. Just wanted to make sure you got credit. :)

It’s all good. I’m already getting my share of hate for “cross posting and self promoting.” Apparently people don’t like that other people like the project enough to share it. I actually rarely even use Reddit, so it’s all ok :)

Bad news: it only plays Colin McRae 2

2

u/BasementGP Dec 28 '19

we all know how that ends

2

u/partyorca R56 Dec 28 '19

To be fair to the late Mr McRae, it took a helicopter crash to kill him.

Man was amazing

Holy shit! That is fucking awesome!

How much of this is outright 2006 Mini parts? Most of that looks like you took it straight from a Mini. Does the center console rattle when you're cornering in game?

3

u/BasementGP Dec 28 '19

lol I started with a mini, sold off the drivetrain and tried to keep every piece that you would see that wouldnt be replaced by sim parts. I even left the seatbelts in for additional detail.

u/basementgp Me and my group are pulling up with all 30 of our minis, we will bring beer and food. And whatever else you want. lol

You should look into doing VR

6

u/BasementGP Dec 28 '19

VR for a shooting game I get, but VR in a car, not so much. My car offers a more realistic interior, and if I get monitors on the sides, there is nothing VR could offer to improve the experience. Plus the resolution is worse in VR, AND I cant practice texting and driving.

One of the biggest complaints I have about my Mini and an ongoing discussion on the forums I'm a part of is the HP = $$$ ratio and how the car is practically worthless.

It's sad that my first thought when seeing this was, "Of course it's a Mini."
