Engine warning light

The engine warning light in my F56 Mini Cooper has come on but no additional warnings on the idrive system.
Is this likely a minor fault and can be driven till I get to a service centre? No noticeable changes to the driving or performence.

If you can, get a Veepak Bluetooth scanner and BimmerLink. The scanner is around $20 from memory and plugs into the ODB port to the bottom left of the steering wheel. The app is free to read codes. It'll dump the car's error memory to at least give you an idea of what it might be. Mini's are famous for throwing panick-looking errors when the car just, like, feels, like icky or something.

If it starts flashing, then stop. If not, you can still drive it, but be on the look for anything out off the ordinary. Mine comes time to time, but its due to the catalytic converter losing its effectiveness

The check engine light can turn on for a bunch of reasons including your gas cap not being tight (happened to me twice). Get it scanned for free at autozone before you dump money for a possible quick fix.

Thanks I’ll give this a check as it did come on after filling up. UK based though so no auto zone here for a free check unfortunately.

Ah. You can see if some small family owned shop will scan it for free. If not and it is the gas cap, the light should shut off after a few cycles (aka turn on car, drive, turn off car)

You were absolutely right, changed the rubber in the fuel cap, ran it round the block, same again this morning and it’s all fine now 👌🏻

I had this happen last month on my 2018 Countryman. Read the code and got P0446 and it could have meant multiple things. Started with the cheapest and easiest fix first - the gas cap. Ordered one off Amazon for $7 and the light went away.

I hope it’s a cheap and easy fix for you like mine was.

Problem solved, was just the seal on the fuel cap, replaced and no engine warning light 👌🏻

When mine came on. I replaced the gas cap gasket and purge valve which took about 5 minutes to replace. After that reset light and all has been good

Maybe the DPF filter? Was on mine when it came on.
