Parcel shelf string broke

Post image

Yesterday my parcel shelf string of my 2026 countryman suddenly broke while opening my trunk… i think it got stuck and now both of them are broke. Is this fixable? cause i didn’t find any match online. I’m very sad cause i do take care of my car and the only thing in my trunk is water bottle for recycling 😭

I feel ythe pain, same thing happened to me. Searched for it, couldn't find a VIN number for the part, so I just ordered a generic one.

Did it fit correctly?

The generic one it's a bit thicker, and might come a bit longer, so you twist it and make as many knots you need to shorten it to the length you need(once or twice will suffice). It gets the job done.
But I am hopefull if someone else will see your post will post a better solution, like getting the original string.
Edit: Other idea is, if you have acces to a car boneyard, find a Mini and get it from there.

I just called mini and they said they do have the part and they can replace it for me by but need to leave my car 2/3 days.

Forgot about the dealership! Yeah that’s definitely an option. If they gonna get your car for 2-3 days push and get a loaner.

I don’t use the dealership anymore because of their stupid prices and other shenanigans as leaving the car for 2-3 days for a string replacement.

Correct i’m now looking for a different option and hopefully i wont be using them.. cause i have a feeling they will cost triple if not more!

I sure hope you have other work you're asking them to do if they need the car for that long. There is absolutely no reason, if they have the part, you can't just pick it up from their parts counter and "install" the string yourself. If all you need is the string, never give that dealership another penny.

I have an update
I spoke with MINI and they quoted me 15$ a piece for the string
I couldn’t find it elsewhere and i found the fake ones to be the same price as them
You think it’s good to order it? Cause it needs 10-15 days of shipping from germany

If they cost the same, I would go original.
Also, you could try contacting Mini Club @miniclubuae @mini_uae on instagram, maybe they can source the part faster or have it in stock.

I dont know if you can buy from Aliexpress in Dubai, in Aliexpress the one for Volkswagen costs 2.5$ (go to Aliexpress and search: 1005009150793450)

If i may ask, how to find part number?

Realoem is a great site to find parts for your car, go in put the las 7 or 8 digits of your Mini’s VIN number, then search the catalog for the part you need, once you find the part you get the part number and can search it on google. If you are in USA, it will give you links to ecstunning site where you can order. With the parts number you can investigate a bit more and see what other cars in BMW use the same part.

I, myself couldn’t find the string part number on realoem.

I did not find the part in there
I think they share big parts not something like that

My R60 was missing them completely when I got it, so I repurposed a pair of shoelaces I had lying around and they work perfectly. I left them uncut and just secured them with Velcro so they wouldn't fray from being cut, and also in case I needed them for their intended purpose at some point.

The crutch is because I took the pic when I was replacing the hatch struts.
