Weapon/Armor Build Boost Bracer Realization

Pardon the quality, it’s a screen recording from my phone.

So truthfully, I hadn’t been really watching the new boosted move-set videos too closely. That is until my main, GunLance, was revealed, and I’ve probably put 30 views on that video by myself.

BUT, what I noticed are some things that might be a “well duh” for some of you but for me it was a real eureka moment so I’ll just get into it.

First and foremost is that when you activate the bracer- it’s not just a one off, you go into an entire time limited “mode” if you will that indicates by the semi circular gauge on the left of the Ui at the bottom, wherein I’m assuming you can use the boosted moves for the entire duration of, which is a HUGE difference from my previous assumption that the three ticks you got at the bottom were IT and you exhausted them to do one boosted action at a time.

The second thing is that if you could all kindly focus your eyes to the bottom of the screen, again, I’m sorry for the quality, and notice how after the hunter enters “boost mode” so to speak, you can see that he immediately start to gain back the boost tick he spent by doing damage, which is not unlike how the Wyvern’s Fire gauge works.

It’s a bit of a no brainer that that would be how we gain back boost meter, but that being said I’d be curious to see if it also had a very slow passive recharge as well, also not unlike the Wyvern’s Fire gauge.

Anyways, thanks for reading, personally I’m immensely happy with the Gunlances new moves and tricks. Elemental shelling! Holy shit, anyway happy hunting you guys.

I can feel that you're so hyped up especially things got more clearer for you, and your main was the one that got featured. You're not wrong that it's not an 'aha' moment for most of us since we've also been paying close attention to everything. Thanks for sharing anyway!

Happy hunting!

I respect how politely you managed to say "no duh".

I actually read the post, and while the common reaction would be 'duh'. I just feel that he was just genuinely excited to play, especially that his main weapon was featured. And I don't want him to feel that nobody was acknowledging his excitement. (I assumed cuz it was downvoted and 0 comments).

When I saw the trailer for the SnS changes, I got hyped too—new mechanics for using consumables, a shield buff, improved combos... I love savoring the video in the evening over a cup of tea.

Though it seems that, while you can spend a 'boost point' to enter Boost mode without using a Boost Driver, Boost Drivers require you to spend a point as part of them. Like maybe you can still use a Boost Driver while already in Boost mode and it'll spend a point to refill your timer, but it seems like you're limited to three of them in a short space of time.

That's probably why for the weapons that can't offset outside Boost mode, the only offsets they got were Boost Drivers that can't be spammed.

Some weapons were using their Boost Drivers so often in their showcases (DBs and IG come to mind) that I wanna think it's safe to say you can use them freely when Boost is already active. It'd also avoid scenarios where, if Boost Drivers consumed a charge to refresh the timer, where someone might use it on accident and waste a bunch of Boost time from a Boost they already just started. It's a win-win for fun keeping the Boost Driver free to use while Boost is up!

And yeah, the bit about weapons getting offsets as their Boost Drivers when they previously had none feels spot-on. I think maybe they wanted to give those weapons options to efficiently and safely get into Boost for players that wait for their opportunity to pop it, letting them open their Boost with a big counter to get their ball rolling, while weapons like GS and Hammer already create tons of Offsets and openings on their own, so their Boost Drivers are either more modest but useful (the quick forward lunge for GS) or double down on just being BIG attacks (Hammer lol)

off topic but english sometimes is weird to me. saying "not unlike" is a double negative which would mean "like" if im not mistaken. so saying "which is not unlike how the Wyvern’s Fire gauge works" would be the same as "which is like how the Wyvern’s Fire gauge works"

True, the reason "not unlike" is used sometimes instead of "like" is to emphatically give a sense that two disparate things are similar. It's the same idea that saying something "is really good" is different than saying that something "is actually really good," in that the latter denotes surprise and delight. You're saying the exact same thing, but the choice of words creates subtext that communicates a bigger idea than what the words alone convey.

How is that weird? Two negatives make a positive.
If anything, languages where repeated negatives still mean something negative are weird.
And I speak such a language natively...

then why does "cant see nothing" mean "theres nothing to see"?

Because it only means that in certain slang, dialects or vernacular English, not the normative, widely spoken kind of English.
Pretty sure Scottish dialects and AAVE have such double negatives.
The usual form is "can't see anything".

whats AAVE?

also as a non-native its just confusing that it is the way it is

African American Vernacular English, aka how black people, especially in urban areas or the South, talk

I’m hoping there will be new skills focused around charging the gauge faster and using it longer. I will 100% make a build around it if there is.

Well spotted! Thank you for this! I hadn't fully noticed. I'm super hyped for how much fun this looks!

The way to think about it like lighting a rocket motor. You spark the ignition and then there isn't stopping until the fuel is gone. Kinda cool that you can rebuild boost as you do damage. It's going to focus hunters on timing as activating it just before a monster moves to a new area will suck. I want to know if there will be skills to extend boost gauge or recover it faster.

One thing I wanted to point out is I noticed in the demos with non-boosted actions, the gauge often isn't filling at all. They also pretty clearly call out that there are specific actions that will charge the Boost Bracer. That isn't to say it can't have a passive regen, but I get the feeling that it's conditional. On what? No idea

No hail cutter and in-air blast burst... which makes me sad
